Good stuff, this is exactly where the old adage of 'styles make fights' comes into play.

Hearns was a great boxer with huge physical advantages.

Duran was a great boxer/fighter that applied relentless pressure to Ray for 15 rounds.

Floyd is a great boxer and is as good as Hearns and Duran.

But he wouldn't have caused Ray the same trouble as what they did IMHO.

Because again, Floyd is a safety first fighter and Ray wouldn't have had an ounce of respect for Floyd's power.

Ray was equal in terms of speed and skill, and he was bigger, stronger and had a lot more power. He also threw more punches, with more variation.

I think Floyd would have been extremely cautious, and Ray would have been very aggressive.

I just can't envisage Floyd beating him.

SRL hit MUCH harder, bigger, stronger and just as fast. PBF better defensively, but Ray,s will to win is way too much for safety first Floyd. With zero to fear ,SRL cooly walks him down and PBF has nothing to keep SRL at bay. SRL late rd, TKO. Hearns would light up PBF inside of 4. Truthfully we all know that PBF would never sign a contract that pits him against the likes of SRL,Duran and the ever imposing Hearns.

I also respect anyone like yourself who is open to debate on a sensible level. Unfortunately the more vociferous Leonard fanboys are more likey to resemble this kind of ****.

Anyone who picks Floyd knows nothing about boxing. No way Floyd has the output to out point Ray and no way does he have power to KO him. The only question is would Floyd be able to make it the distance.

As far as I am concerned that earns them the absolute right to be abused and insulted, and if they cry to the mods, who gives a fvck?

I think sometimes the Rooster gets caught up in the moment, but his basic theories are not that far away. I think I can safely say that we both " believe " that Leonard, much like Roy Jones, was ONLY ever about speed and reflexes, and once they deserted said fighters, they became little more than punch bags. Much like Lennox Lewis getting " one shot KO'd " it is something that simply cannot be dismissed, and MUST count against them.

My point being of course that though Mayweather might give away quite a bit in size, strength, and punch power, he would always be the " better " grounded fighter.

Just to qualify, we even have people claiming that Leonard was a " pressure " fighter. Please! That is akin to saying Ike Ibeabuchi is a white guy.

    Good points.

I hope if we meet again in the general, we can debate in the same manner.

There's no need for us to resort to name calling.

Having an educated debate is much better.

Keep up the good work. :good

    Leonard a " pressure " fighter. LMFAO.

Yeah, and Marvin Hagler was really a long haired hippy. They just put one of those prosthetic skull caps on him.:roll:

Einstein, you did see SRL take the fight to Hearns ?? And I was curious were you one of the other `classy` fans in attendance when Hagler almost decapitated Minter ?? I remember Goody telling me how crazy the fans went and how the windows in their limo was all smashed when they got outside... Besides what would you know about Marvin Hagler ???

sounds like fantasy to me, something that was invented to help improve an otherwise lacking resume

"Ray's will to win is way too much for Floyd",, "Ever imposing Hearns"

I might be inclined to believe that with some proof. Perhaps a win over a fighter with similar skills & speed, a fighter like Nunn, or Norris, or even Camacho. But where are they?

Unfortunately, those victories are non existent and will ever be. it's really too bad. His reluctance to meet up with Nunn, Curry, Pryor, Hagler and his steller defeats to faster, younger men prompts me favor the smaller and as yet unbeaten Floyd

becuz as well know, Floyd cant be beat

    A lacking resume?

    Ray's resume ANNIHILATES Floyd's resume.

Why didn't Floyd meet up with earlier versions of Cotto and Mosley etc?

Why didn't he meet up with Marg, Williams and Manny?

You'll know doubt give me reasons, yet at the same time, won't allow me to give you reasons for the guys that Ray missed.

Why don't you tell us who Floyd's beat, that resembled Ray?

We know Floyd can't be beat?

    Really?

Well, let us know when he's fought and beat the calibre of guys that Ray fought.

Many people think that he lost to Castillo, and a 34 year old Oscar pushed him close enough.

    He's also terrified of Manny.

So yes, he could have been beat, and if he fights on long enough, he will be beat.

I suppose Calzaghe and Marciano couldn't have been beat either?

Too much emphasis is put on the zero.

Floyd isn't superior to Ray, because he's never lost.

    1. What makes you think that Floyd would have signed to fight Ray, had the opportunity arose in the same era?

    2. Give me a breakdown on how you think the fight would have played out, without using other fighters as examples.

I come over to the classic section to get educated.

I very rarely post though, as I just like to observe.

Ray has never been able to deal with slick boxers. Never

and cant deal with a moving target. Why did it take him 11 just to take out Larry Bonds? how does one extrapolate from that performance and the fact that he was behind on points in the Hearns fight to walk down Floyd? Even his old man Floyd sr, nowhere near a top flight fighter, went 10 with Ray and that was in Ray's young days while Floyd sr was what, an old man? Floyd sr was more of a shell than even Hagler

believe me, things would be completely different had it been Floyd jr, an atg in there with Ray. Floyd I would dare to say, was on the same level of brilliance as Terry Norris and his speed was approaching that of Terry's. No, it wouldnt quite be the blowout Terry delivered. but Floyd would still consistenly beat Ray to the punch as Terry did.

Ray actually discontinued hs career to avoid younger faster boxers and even when he came back, avoided them. Why u think he passed up Nunn for Lalonde, Duran, and a frighteningly fragile Hearns?

and bypassed Hagler until he was a shell

and when he took a fight with Norris, look what happened. People act like Ray had such a long career and that accounted for his loss but it didnt. it's not as if he had Joe Louis' record 25 defenses. I could definitely see reason for Joe's decline. I cant see a reason for Ray's decline. he was perfect in uno mas. he just couldnt thrive against an opponent like Terry

and he didnt. lookit the confusion Terry caused him. It would be like that against Floyd. Ray just took too long looking for openings and frankly, as the aggressor, he stunk!

That's why he lost to this style of fighter and why he would likewise lose to Floyd who by the way, has never lost even at the age of 38. Ray lost at 34 and just doesnt have the tools to compete with Floyd

experience wise, it's the best of Ray's one division to the best of Floyd's division including his domination of Marquez, who has beaten Pac three times including a knockout

why settle for a fight with the loser when you can take on the winner?

as for the rst of Ray's resume, we've already been over that. Benitez was not a force to be reckoned with and lost to every good fighter he'd ever been put in with; Bruce Curry, Harold Weston, Leonard, Hearns, Hamsho, Moore, & Hilton

Hearns was really nothing more than a fledgling champ with three defenses in one year

How does that make him an atg? It doesnt

and the story with Duran we already know, fat, over 40 pounds shed. why would that impress me it doesnt

until we see additional wins over Pryor, Curry, Nunn, and convincing wins, I see no reason to change my mind. the big wins just arent there

It would be different and I would take your side had Ray defeated Terry as he was favored to but the fact is, he didnt and failed to prove me wrong. he didnt even give a good showing

Remember: the stronger the resume, the better are his chances in these kinds of crucial matchups. Wins over red hot Curry in 85, Nunn in 89 and or Norris in 91, wouldnt necessarily guarantee success but would go a long way
