Thanks. (I edit like crazy. You want your thoughts represented correctly) General is crazy but I apply the same method. Asking question and responding. I weed out the serious boxing fans from insane internet bravehearts who type out insults and curse words. Seriously, people..you are typing. After all the smoke clears, your thoughts will be analysed for what they are. Just words that either hold weight or not. The insults are easily edited because there is no context for false rage or e-insults. I enjoy these debates because I am forced to prove the obvious which causes me to reassess what I seems to be a no-brainer. It is healthy research even if it falls on deaf ears.
A shame you didnt see the next fight after that. Duran lost to Kirland Laing the same year becuz he was the same lethargic overweight slob who wasnt training. Was Laing special too or do you admit, you're just playing me? The effort on Benitez part was nothing special and the loss to Laing just proves it Leonard Benitez was a piece of ****, and you're merely resorting to more fabrications as befits all Sugar Ray fans. The only action fans had all night came from the Hagler fight vs Antuofuermo Whatever Sugar Ray said is to build up his accomplishment more on account his opponent hadnt offered much resistance Benitez wasnt a slick boxer, he spread his feet wide apart, just stands in front of opponents and trades jabs. where are the moves of a Whitaker, a Camacho? a Norris? a Nunn? the speed? he had none If Sugar were as good as u say, he wouldve faced Nunn. Unlike Benitez, Mike was slick, quick, and would make Sugar sick
first of all, you said Ray HAD to retire and now you're backing off, rephrasing it to he was advised to retire at the time that's not the same as "he had to retire" I think you now see the error of your ways as for Floyd's opposition, it's not as if Floyd waited them out Oscar? Oscar had more balls than Ray. Oscar would fight anyone anytime, no exceptions, no strings attached and no fine print. That's why we got a statue of Oscar down at staples i downtown. The man's a hero and a credit to the human race. i will never lose respect for Oscar Not Ray tho. You had to concede to his terms or else the fight's off. ask Aaron Pryor Ray is the most reluctant fighter I have ever seen,,, even back in 82 I could see it, saying "this guy's not going to fight him" be it Hagler or Pryor back then it was unthinkable for Ray to fight Marvin Hagler altho fighting in a boxing ring was NOT unthinkable for him as we saw him in a comeback vs Howard let's face it, to take a fight with Hagler in 87 is like not having the nerve to ask out a high school beauty queen until she's over 40 all stretched out after spitting out 5 kids. why bother now? :bart its the same thing here. some like you might say in the name of personal conquest atsch look, just becuz u wont come out and admit it, doesnt mean I cant see straight thru u. recognizing the weakness in a person's arguments then breaking it apart is my specialty. I do it to goyourownway, all the time Oscar's best days were over since his bout with Quartey when he was living la vida loca. blame it on Ricky martin, not Floyd even when ray WAS active, he wouldnt face nunn and u know why? he was at ringside at the kalambay fight and immediately wrote off Mike for what? for looking too good, too sharp, too quick and too dangerous. all that made him too RISKY - same as Hagler in the early 80s Hagler was SHOT in 87. it's not the real Hagler and so I DISCREDIT Ray and his standing comes down becuz of the fact he favors these remedial type bouts and thus cheapens it it seems as tho no matter how hard Ray tries to impress, something always takes the shine off it
bouts such as Leonard benitez are what keeps it from becoming a mainstream sport. seriously, who could stand to watch 15 rounds of this? why it's like watching grass grow bouts such as Hagler - Hearns, Pryor Arguello, Douglas Tyson, Chavez Taylor, are energetic, and inspirational, is what boosts the sport to new highs and makes us feel like kids again
before u leave tell me what u think of Laing Duran. was Laing's effort a special one becuz Duran couldnt touch him? knowing you, you'll just bow out or change the subject
RL wins by KO without a problem faster, stronger, more power and more balls ( in his prime_ you people should go back and watch he was a tough SOB )
How's Floyd gonna keep Ray off him? With his "power", hahaha. As I said, as simple as it may sound, anyone who thinks Floyd beats Leonard knows nothing about boxing.
people were saying the same thing about Ali going into the Foreman fight people were saying the same thing about Camacho going into the Leonard fight "Hector has no heart. hector cant punch. How's he going to keep Ray off of him? this will be a mismatch" better to ask "How's Ray going to hit a moving target?" If Ray had a respectable track record against movers, I would agree but u got nothing
OK, I spent some quality time watching not only the Laing fight but also the Luigi Minchillo fight. That Minchillo fight was right before the Benitez fight. Duran looked almost his old beast self. It was impressive. He was hitting everything he threw against a very tough opponent. If it was going 12 or 15 he would have stopped him. I watched enough of the Laing fight to see that Duran was getting beat to the punch every round. Just like he did in the Benitez fight. It is possible that Laing studied the Benitez fight and saw what Wilfredo did that night and carried out a similar plan. Still Duran was tagging Laing every now and then. So I gave you not only the Laing fight ,which in full disclosure I have never watched before, and the Luigi Minchillo fight which I have never heard of before. They both sandwich the Benitez fight. Duran looked great in the fight before the Benitez fight and looked plain in the fight after the Benitez fight. Wilfredo probably had something to do with that, no?
Ray has more stamina than George. If JLC could track Floyd down so could Ray. Ray was past prime when he fought Hector.
Hector was past prime and at least four divisions over his prime when he knocked him out second, it's not a matter of stamina (DUH!), it's a matter of temperament and style and running after a guy is NOT Ray's style (see Norris) "If JLC could track Ray down so could Ray" If Julian Jackson could track Terry down, so could Ray but he didnt and guess what else? JLC LOST and Floyd is still unbeaten, Ray isnt. Guess who gets all the bragging rights?
