I was a big Pryor fan but believe he would hardly be able to touch Pernell while I see Whitaker catching Aaron throughout, not unlike his second bout against Chavez.

Ummm...... I wasn't aware that Whitaker fought Chavez twice.

As for this matchup, I can NEVER decide who I think wins.

Half of me thinks that Pryor's awkwardness, quickness, and activity level would be enough to beat Whitaker.

The other half of me believes that Whitaker was such a genius, that he could negate Pryor's style, and outbox him.

Gun to my head......... I think I'd take Whitaker.

Would I bet it on either way though? Hell no.

Pryor would kick his tail, his workrate, freakish stamina, and tenacity would give Pea hell on earth, ALSO WHITAKER DOESN'T HAVE THE PUNCH, POWER, to keep Pryor off him...

Let's be real Pryor brutally KOD Arguello 2x and he was a helluva lot bigger and better than Whitaker...

In a 15 rounder the Hawk stops him late..

This is an ignorant post. I'm quite possibly THE biggest Aaron Pryor fan on this forum. Pryor was an AWESOME fighter. He really was. But there's NO fighter in history below 147 that's beating a prime Whitaker easily. It just isn't happening. If ANYBODY could negate Pryor's style, it'd be Whitaker.

Arguello was NOT better than Whitaker. ESPECIALLY not the older version that Pryor fought. Plus, two completely different styles.

Whitaker-Pryor is a close fight either way. Neither man is getting stopped.

For most of the bout I see Whitaker's movement and counters negating Pryor's offence. The Hawk would definitely have his moments but not enough of them to win the fight.

    Whitaker by clear points verdict.

I think Whitaker's skills and smarts would enable him to win a decision.

Whitaker had an excellent workrate himself in addition to his great defense and jab.

"Arguello a lot bigger and better than Whitaker?" WTH???!!!

This is one of those fights where you could sit around for hours and still not coming up with a definitive answer...

I will say this, though, You would NEED to have the workrate of Pryor in his prime to beat 'Sweet Pea' and you'd need to be a defensive genius who use's his defense as offence to beat a prime Pryor.

It's a good matchup, interesting question.

Time and again throughout his career, Whitaker was matched with someone I thought would be THE guy to finally unseat him.........Mayweather was too powerful and experienced......Nelson too gritty and well-rounded......the 140-pounders would surely be too big for him.......Chavez was a legend, nobody beats a legend.........McGirt could match him move for move, surely.......Vasquez was too big and strong, no way Whitaker could take HIM.

My hopes were dashed each time. I see no reason to fool myself again. Whitaker by decision.

If it goes the distance I'd predict a Whitaker win by about 3 rounds, if there's a stoppage, I'd say it was Pryor who got it. But since the most likely outcome is a decision, I picked Whitaker.

There was nothing ignorant about that post.

I am NOT a Pryor fan because he has no style to his game but, he fights all out. He ran straight at Arguello and took that hardest punches ever landed in the 140 weight class and laughed and put Arguello on the mat. He ran right out and destroyed and I mean destroyed Cervantes. The freakin' HAWK!!!

Now, here comes Pernell Whitaker who has one fight at 140 against Pineda who was discouraged after realizing that he was not going to hit Whitaker with one shot and get rid of him. Pineda is not on the level of anyone worth mentioning especially prime Aaron or Arguello or even Kostya Tszyu.

Now understand...Pryor will never get discouraged, never stop punching, never reason, never understand, never get on the same page, with the calculator Pernell. Pernell will be on the bike and never get off and lose buy a wide margin or get KO'ed that that is.

Whitaker would be beaten convincingly. Does not have to be easy. Whitaker cannot do anything with Pryor. Nothing. Pryor is a hurricane. Arguello was better and beat better fighters than Whitaker (Olivares). Whitaker would be in up to his ears with Arguello at 140.
