How is Broner getting paid more than the guy that whooped his ass? Million dollar paydays were something reserved for the fighters that made it to the highest levels of the sport.

I am of the mind that a fighters worth increases as they earn their way through the ranks. As a business, it's not viable to pay your employees more than what your product is bringing in. With that simple business practice in mind, the fighter purse should fall in accordingly with other expenses to keep the event in the black.

i'm just as much a critic of floyd as i am of pac. don't get it twisted.

more than anything...i love boxing. floyd and pac could retire today and my love for the sport would not change one single bit. in fact...i would be extremely happy if they did so that the *******s and *****s would all disappear.

back in the day....before al haymon ever came to boxing...he used to promote concerts and plays that toured nationally. one of them was beauty shop which ended up being a movie. i used to hear..."this is an al haymon promotion..." at the end of all the advertisements and i always assumed he was jewish.

    Inflation. Inflation like a mother-ucker. 350k in 1980 is $1,006,980 today.

Sugar Ray Leonard was the first fighter to make 100,000,000 dollars in purses throughout his career.

Floyd made 81 Mil for one fight. It's inflation not actual value.

excellent point!!! none of them sound like real boxing fans except for roy. they all sound like skeptic/no-it-alls. they kill the vibe immediately when i'm excited to see a match.

where's your proof that they aren't bringing in as much as they are being paid?

that's money on the table for the card. how that money is divided depends on all the participating parties. if maidanas ppl aren't smart enough to know their worth...who's fault is that?

I'd have to say that I prefer Showtime over HBO at the moment as well.

Both make their share of good and bad fights. I agree with most that Showtime's announcer's are better but HBO's productions are better.

The thing I personally like about Showtime, especially the last year or two, is that they often give us more than 2 fights while HBO rarely does more than 2 and still on occasion gives us just one.

These next two weeks are a perfect example. Showtime is doing a tripleheader Saturday plus they are doing 2 on Showtime Extreme. Thats 5 fights and its nothing unusual for them.

Not all the Showtime Extreme fights are great fights but they do have some nice ones and they usually give us some top prospects or the occasional mid level veteran.

On the other hand, next week HBO is doing just 2 fights even though there are some really nice undercard fights available.

DeGale-Gonzales is a nice fight and the winner is mandatory for the Froch-Groves winnner, not only is it a good fight but its a natural fit by airing the winners if they fight next.

On the Donaire-Vetyeka undercard theres 2 solid featherweight title fights. Good fights and another natural fit since Donaire probably faces Walters or Gradovich next if they win.

I can't see Showtime airing just the two fights if it was their show. They'd have 3-5 of those fights on. That's one of the big reasons Showtime is beating HBO to me, they give us more fights.

I don't let the announcing team get to me. I'm only half listening to the the HBO crew (unless Ward or Roy is speaking), same thing with Showtime (unless Paulie is giving some analysis).

When they play favorites with one fighter or another it doesn't really bother me either, I have two working eyes, I can see the action and make my own judgements.

I would like it if they offered a clean audio feed with the mics in the corner and in the ring turned up, that would be pretty cool.
