Rewatching Groves vs Froch

Isnt it possible father time just hit Froch and no matter how hard he trains you cant stop that?

 

I only gave Froch 2 rounds, but what I've noticed a lot of people saying as an excuse for Froch being basically controlled for the majority of the fight is that "it took him 4 or 5 rounds to shake off the effects of the knock down"

If that's the case, it's pretty odd then that many people scored the 2nd round to Froch.

 

Could be but then your taking away a lot of credit from Groves, nobody that I've seen has ever done what he did to Froch.

But then credit where it's due - Froch is one durable tough man. He soaked up a lot of punishment and was still there throwing punches.

That said, you can only go on having fights like that for so long. At what 36 or 37, however old he is, he's coming off the back of a fight with Kessler where he took hard shots and he took heavy shot after heavy shot against Groves... it catches up with you sooner or later.

Groves was a head no question although I think froch took 2 or 3 rounds.
The stoppage was also definitely too early although I feel froch would of finished him soon after.

Jim watt was so biased. Froch didn't have much success but him wat didn't give him any credit.

 

Can you tell me what rounds you gave to Froch out of interest?

 

Almost identical to the judges? Are you serious? Groves was WELL in front of Carl.

 

Could give Froch two rounds maximum.

Groves was comfortably winning and the stoppage was a disgrace.

 

Oh I think Groves gives even the best Froch all kinds of trouble but I'm not buying the 'Froch wasnt prepared' last time. He trained hard last time and I have no doubt he has trained just as hard this time if not harder but age can just take over you overnight no matter what you do in the gym. I cant see how what what happened in the 1st fight hasnt also taken an effect on Froch. He took some hard hard shots and as you say it catches up with you sooner or later.

As for the scoring in the first fight I think Groves was well up when it was stopped. Was amazed by the judges as they clearly were watching something else.

 

Groves simply doesn't have the stamina to retain enough power to hurt Carl for the 12 rounds. Nor does he retain the foot-speed to run for the latter half of the fight if he's ahead by then.
I can see a way for George to win but don't think it's likely in front of 80,000 baying fans, nervous energy will drain both fighters and then it comes down to stamina, will, chin, experience etc all of which favour Froch.
Groves gets caught and stopped down the stretch is by far the most likely outcome for me, especially after seeing the first fight!
Seems strange to me people think it will be vastly different this time round.

 

Being a Froch fan I still would not put money on the outcome,it's a 50-50 fight for me,if Froch was unprepared in the first fight,will we see a different Carl this time? I don't think Froch can fight any different at this stage of his career,the twilight, The outcome all depends on Wether George expends to much energy in the early rounds without any success, and if Carl has still got that granite chin,and comes on strong in the later rounds,sounds predictable but that's how I see it

 

If the fight is like the first fight I think Groves will be a very happy man.

#8 was close, but in that round Froch should have had a point deducted so I score it to Groves.

Froch fights two ways, either pushing opponents back, or using the jab more as in Kessler II and the Abraham fight. So when he fights someone with a better jab and who pushes him back he is very unsure when throwing shots. I think Froch is a good fighter but his confidence comes from being able to push fighters back and onto the ropes where he can unload. Both times Froch was knocked down against Taylor and Groves he was backed up on the ropes. Can't wait!!!!
