And someone mentioned this on another thread, but his left elbow has been strapped in ALL sparring footage that Ringside have shown over the last few weeks... Don't what it means - if anything - but doubt Froch would have taken this rematch without knowing it was going to be in better condition than last time given how high the stakes are. On the Facebook Q+A programme, Froch said he has never pulled out of a fight or postponed a fight due to injury - Groves missed a trick here - Froch actually postponed the Arthur Abraham fight due to a back injury, because he said the stakes were too high for him to fight with an injury on that occasion, and that it was the first time he'd ever done it. Can't believe he'd carry an injury that prevents him jabbing effectively into this fight?
Carl cant beat Groves to the jab, not quick enough. I think McCraken said they were training to counter attack instead rushing in and getting caught flush.
Froch has never had a good jab. And only against Abraham (static and slow) and Kessler (who moved with him and was also static and slow) has he had any success with it. He's got long arms, that's it.
Half hearted because when he often threw it he was getting beaten to it or countered with snappy shots from Groves... also especially in the early rounds, Groves judgement of distance was very good, so when Froch was looking to throw the jab he either couldn't get it off properly or was over reaching. Not saying GG will be able to because Ward is superb on the inside, but it's an area of Froch's game Groves could look to take advantage of next weekend.
The key thing for me in this fight (which a lot are over looking) is that Froch did his best to avoid taking this fight. He doesn't want it and Groves has forced his hand via public pressure and the IBF. Unless Froch was v.worried about this fight, why wouldn't you take the biggest payday for a fighter who isn't GGG / Ward for eg. All the advantages are with Groves (jab, handspeed, power, footwork/speed, technical work), except jaw and stamina. Froch knows this and I expect Froch to either try and blast Groves early (Bute style) or set a steady fast pace to take Groves to the trenches late.
Thers only two things Froch needs to do , 1--keep his hands higher 2--- keep his hands higher he was jabbing from the waist , and too slow back for defence , I suspect they would of took him right back to basics in the gym , and get him jabbing behind a gaurd , get him counter punching from behind the gaurd . If he can do this and keep walking forward making George work ,for 5-6 rnds then he can pile it on later , and pile it on he will because its the only way he knows how to fight its his natural style . Theres absolutly no point , in trying to get froch to dance and try to outbox George because he's too old , and too slow , its got to be pressure ,, but controlled pressure especielly early when george is gonna be very dangerous . They have to make George work , and wear him out take him to the deep waters again , Froch in the later rounds has to let them go , but he has to step with george Funny enough i think we are going to see Froch boxing better than he has for a long time , , If he carrys on with low hands , and getting hit square on , he's gonna go again , Just my opinion other than that I've got no facking idea , i'm gonna ask my 5 year old grandaughter which one i should bet on , she'll probably pick the winner .
One thing I've noticed about Froch over the years and now,is that he believes he cannot be knocked out, because of his iron chin, what's the first thing a boxer looses in advancing years, is it punch resistance, or punch power,if Carl has lost either one of these, it will give George great encouragement, but then if Carl still retains those assets! Can't wait for Sataday
Its defo punch resistance that goes first , and if i remeber right Froch did get knocked down , so the best thing George can do is try and take him before he gets warmed up ,, easier said than done though , like you said Can't wait for saturday
I noticed the other week when ringside showed Froch sparring with Eubank Jr that Eubank caught him with 2 (I think?) right hands which suggests Froch still has problems avoiding these!?
