This gets me every time. Some even thank Haymon and God, but Haymon "first of all..." :think It's some creepy sh*t.
Haymon knows how to build stars and get his clients PAID. Alot of his clients are hype jobs but at the end of the day it's about making money and Haymon knows how to do that. He got Floyd a $200mil guaranteed contract for 3 yrs of work. That's unheard of, how can you hate on Haymon as an advisor/manager? He's made stars out of guys like Broner when they didn't earn it. Guys like Lara and Lucas who normally would be ducked will now get top fights now that Haymon is representing them.
Why not?. If he was terrible and bad then fighters won't sign with him. Fans seem to forget that good managers bring the best for the fighters. These fighters don't go in there and risk their very lives as a hobby or part-time.
Really? Don King was good for boxing? He was good for his boxers? Ahmet Ohner is good for boxing? Jose Sulaiman was good for boxing? Bob Arum is good for boxing? The mafia is/was good for boxing?
King was a theif no joke, but King MADE fights How many big fights werent made during Kings rule? the only major heavyweight bout that wasnt made was Bowe-Lewis Because of King, we had Ali-Foreman, Tyson-Holyfield to name a few
Yeah, it's always a mystery to me as to how someone gets to the top in such a vicious sport. You have to believe there is some bad **** going down to be where he is. Kind of like when King had Davey Hilton's lawyer murdered. Stuff happens to get ahead in this business.
King is also a scumbag who took money from his fighters, straight up murdered a man and keeps other aspiring boxers from developing their careers. See: http://grantland.com/features/don-king-faces-end-career/ For a great read on Don King. Sure he was the promoter that was responsible for making those fights, but who's to say any other promoter wouldn't have been capable of getting it done? My point being: Just because someone has stuck around in boxing for a long time doesn't necessarily mean they're GOOD for boxing. It means they exert influence and power such that they remain relevant in it. The same rule applies to any industry.
king, killed davey hiltons lawyer? when was this!!! AL HAYMON, A CRIMINAL BECAUSE HE PROTECTS HIS FIGHTERS FROM THOSE CRIMINALLY CONVICTED SHARKS, ARUM & KING!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hs7sQo-gJg4 Go to the 55:00 mark and watch to about the one hour mark. As to Haymon, I am just saying it is a tough business to rise to the top, legally. King was a thug, ripping off his fighters and taking people out who got in his way.
al haymons first boxer was vernon forrest. forrest was one of the most avoided fighters during his era. al took care of him...even after he injured his shoulder and made his comeback. al also had lamon brewster. the way he acquired brewster wasn't under the best circumstances...but he had him. floyd is definitely his most highest profile client...but al haymon...the harvard educated business man was a success before boxing. i've yet to hear a single boxer speak badly of him. that can't be said about arum, king or gbp all of which are bloodsuckers imo. al haymon doesn't need to tax his fighters. he lets them keep their money. he spreads the wealth. a lot of ppl can learn a thing or two from this man....not just ppl in boxing.
Brewsters the only guy I ever heard imply that going with Al was a mistake. To be fair, part of that may also be that he stabbed his good friend Sam Simon (of The Simpsons fame) in the back to do it after Sam had donr a hell of a lot for Lamon.
I wouldn't compare King to Haymon. Haymon brings his fighters the best fights out there and makes sure they get paid well for it. Sure Don King brought great fights/events but his fighters sure as hell weren't getting paid what they deserve. Haymon is FAR better for boxers than King will ever be. I believe this thread is about Haymon being bad for "Boxing fans" and not Boxers with his somehow careful matchmaking to PROTECT his fighters. There's a reason Arum, Ohnerlol and the mafia aren't managing as many fighters as Haymon is at the moment. There's also a reason Arum despises the competition he's getting from Haymon which is ripping his stable apart.
