when the computer fight with ali and marciano by Murray Woroner happened...before that maybe 3 years, was a fantasy tournament that was staged on radio with commentary (1967?)....all the top heavyweight champs pitted against each other......i have searched for them recordings online without any luck...i would love to hear them......just chancing my arm asking you's...someone may know where to point me.

there was also a middleweight tournament too.

I know they were featured in the Ring magazine and that Hank Kaplan and Nat Fleischer were the selectors of the boxers.

I think that the original 1967 radio tournament fantasy fights are on the bonus disk that came with the DVD, "The Superfight...Marciano vs. Ali" released in 2005...

I heard a few of those fights when they were broadcast.
I think the final was Dempsey vs Marciano with Marciano winning.

There was a computer middleweight "tournament" at that time that I remember, vaguely.

I bought the Ali-Marciano superfight DVD and it did include the tournament - that was several years ago, though.

Same here. Aside from the simulations, there were some great interviews with Willard, Louis, Marciano, Walcott, Angelo Dundee, Nat Fleischer, Doc Kearns son (wjo, interestingly, said Doc thought that Jack Johnson was the greatest heavy on "potential"), ect.

    -------------

    Murray Warner Computer Tournament

    Louis-Fitzsimmons post fight interviews
    (plugging the Marciano-Baer contest)

Comments begin at 1:03:15 (as found on the
    Ali-Marciano Superfight dvd extras:
    Aidio Fights -- Marciano/Baer)
    http://www.amazon.com/Superfight-Marciano-vs-Ali/dp/B000A7DVO0

Interviewer: Joe, what about a fight between Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano?

Joe Louis: Well, I could say that very easily. Marciano beat me . . .

Interviewer (interupts): Oh, yeah, now that wasn't when you were at your best. I'm talking about when you were at your best, twenty-eight years old.

Joe Louis: Oh, I don't know. Marciano's the type of fighter I think is good enough and strong enough and takes a good enough punch to fight anybody.
I don't think that no one, (unclear word) either Dempsey or me, could say "I could beat Marciano".
I think the fight could be . . . It's close, it'd have to be a close fight, because he's too strong, and he could take a good punch, and he just . . . you just can't say that I could beat him.
I'd like to say that I'd fight him, alright, but who would win, I wouldn't know; but I'd like the pay for the fight -- i think it would draw money, though.

    -------

I think Louis was using 'could' in the sense of 'would'. Certainly, though, he wasn't willing to assert that, at their bests, he (or Dempsey) would have beaten Marciano.

but this is just epic...i've listened to dempsey v marciano twice already....its a bloodbath..the atmosphere just jumps from the speakers...its so very well done...far better than i expected.

really looking forward to getting some of this on youtube so i can read the reactions of any of you that listen to it.
