I would have a hard trouble believing this, but I know I guy who grew up in my neighborhood who is five years younger than me, drinks like a fish, and looks about 15-20 years OLDER than I do. So booze does age you, and people did not live as long then as they do now. You take a look at people in their 50s of that time, and they pretty much looked like Lynch does there. So I do believe a heavy boozer could look 20 years older than they "should" because I know I guy who does.
From what I've heard Tyson say is he only drank heavily in his prime after fights or on special occasions. I'm certain he didn't drink when preparing for fights. Any serious boxer shouldn't drink on the regular it does a number on you're body. I doubt many successful boxers were drinking on the regular especially while preparing for fights at the peak of their careers.
After Sullivan, Lynch smashed open that thread, and left it in a horrendous state. Lynch bashes up Sullivan not just pound for pound, but drink for drink...
I have trouble believing that's even real. I haven't ever seen someone prematurely aged that badly apart from kids with genetic disorders. Jim Morrison had the malnourished alcoholic look to him...but he never looked elderly.
Jerry Quarry was a big drinker until he met his last girlfriend and became manager of the rock group 3 dog night, then he moved up to cocaine and booze, he said he was on a binge of both when he fought Ken Norton and prostituted himself by even entering the ring in the condition he was in
Bingo! Very few heavyweights achieve real longevity at the top. Joe Louis tea total. Muhammad Ali Muslim. Larry Holmes social drinker. Wlad Klitschko priorities sorted out.
i've heard you say that a few times before fella....and of course i trust you....but i never read that anywhere else.
I suppose Tony Galento should be considered...I'm sure he wasnt always behind the Bar The Finnegan Brothers Like a Guinness or several and of Course Ricky Hatton like to keep his Tonsils Wet.
Well Jim Morrison didn't drink himself to death, if his death has even be solved. Probably heroin accident. Also, I thought he looked kind of fat towards the end. But I agree, I do have trouble believing the Lynch photo. I guess partly because it's so horrific, but as you say, I've only seen genetic disorders age so extremely. The man in the photo looks about 62. I'd go to an alcoholic 42, but not 32.
