Why is steroid abuse swept under the carpet? It is an absolute disgrace.

So naive. Vada allows elevated leves, every commission and organization does.

you mean to tell me there isn't a problem with performance enhancers in American sports??

i think the results, as well as the suspicious actions, tell a different story whether you like it or not.

what other Nation in sports have the bad reputation you have??:think

    Good post.

But with the NFL, the constant tendons and ligaments and muscle tears strains.....theyve almost gotta use something to repair those type injuries.

Sure theyre being abused, but boxing is not such a business where full body contact is a regular occurence. Sure the odd knees bang together, but guys aint getting torqued at full sprint by others outweighing them by 50lbs either.

I could see the NFL having a slightly lax stance.....and 4:1 is and absirdly high level considering the average is something closer to 1:1 in the clean athlete.

Boxing's acceptable levels for USADA are 6:1......VADA considers ANYTHING over 1.1:1 as being a reason for drug specific testing.

Thats why certain fighters use USADA only and refuse VADA.:deal

I've read vada is 4:1. USDA is 6? Holy ****, apparently so is NCAA. That's all you need to know. It wouldn't be so high if guys were clean. The funny thing is, they're all on the same playing field because they all do it. Skill still triumphs.

Guillermo Jones got into all of his trouble over a diuretic which I thought was common place back in the day before testing became the norm?
Think about all of your boxing hero's. There is a very good chance diuretics played a role in helping them make weight at some point in their career's.
Call me out if I'm wrong here.

Rios got into trouble over an OTC that you used to be able to buy at places like GNC. It was a common pre workout stimulant used by gym rats to get an adrenaline rush before lifting weights.
He could have got into just as much trouble, and gotten a similar effect from drinking a few cups of starbucks before the fight.........Vinny Paz openly drank cappuccino's, or expresso's before fights in the locker room.
It's no big deal really. Not like Rios really took something to give an unfair advantage here.

It's very simple, in any endeavor where enough money is to be made, many,
if not all people will do whatever it takes to excel in that endeavor, to enrich
themselves. This includes anything that enhances their performance, especially
if they can get away with it.

In every sport that's worth anything, people have been using peds, in business
people find ways to cheat other people to further themselves, in banking people
push as far as the law allows, and further, even if it causes a global crisis.

People are selfish, and if they can be selfish without serious consequences,
most will. Performance enhancing drugs are undetectable with the right
doctors/know how, so yeah at the top, likely, most cheat.

Look at cycling, Armstrong has been taken down so harshly because of his
dictatorial attitude in forcing others to use and suing anyone that questioned
him. However, not a single rider ending in the top 10 of the tour de france
classement general can possibly be clean. Anyone that believes so is naive,
or does not want to see.

In boxing there is more on the line than in cycling, so to believe that your
hero is clean just because you like him is pretty naive. For me, be it Mayweather,
Pacquiao, Hopkins, Calzaghe, Kovalev, Stephenson, GGG, The Klitschko's, Martinez
or Chavez Jr, chances are much higher that they are on something performance
    enhancing than not.

Lol at people comparing boxing to cycling. Name me a substance that's going to have a quantifiable effect on boxing performance? Knowing what I know I wouldn't give a **** what an opponent would be taking.

Greed of promoters and he apathy of the fans / media the main problems

Promoters / commissions wont push for the most stringent testing because it could result in big fights being cancelled

Fans / media don't wanna miss out on fights /lose credentials so they stay quiet

Basically most only care bout themselves or their favourite fighter rather than the sport as a whole

When u think about it, it really is astonishing....

The other sports that players are renowned for using PEDS like sprinting and cycling are sports where it would be nearly impossible to cause an injury to anyone but the individual but in boxing the extra 40% one could gain from using PEDS could be the difference between a losing a fight and losing his life

The obvious answer for the original question is down to not having 1 international sanctioning body which results in promotors and sanctioning bodies viaing for status/money/prestige resulting in all ignoring testing as a fighters testing position would have massive financial implications

Like imagine if Bob Arum introduced stringent testing for all Pacs fights and he tested positive for a steriod, it would b like Bob flushing his own cash down the drain (best example I could think of, no PAC hater)

Great thread 46 and 0. Drug cheats are an absolute disgrace to the sport.

My suggested punishment would be, once caught:

1.Change all their previous wins and draws to NC's. For example, Andre Berto's record would now currently be 0-3, and his only fight that counted before he got busted was the fight he lost to Ortiz. Of course that also means all the bums that he beat should have a 1 removed from their L.

    2. Exemption from the International Boxing Hall Of Fame ballot, regardless of what you achieve as guys like Joe Calzaghe had to earn in on skill and hard work.

    3. The guilty party has to undergo the kind of year round testing that Donaire did for the remainder of their career.

And even then I think it's taking it easy on them.
