Groves was on the mat with his left leg folded looking like he couldn't get up and the referee stop the fight. Montiel was on the mat with his legs shaking looking like he couldn't get up and the referee allowed the fight to continiue. Between the two, I felt Montiel was in a poorer condition to continue. It seems to me that the two questionable stoppages on the undercard set the tone for the main event. The referee should've at minimum let Groves get up to get a better look of his condition. Lol, at one point the referee even impeded Groves by putting his foot in front of Groves folded leg.
depends on the referee and his judgement, some would end both immediately, some would give them both a chance to try and get up
It was a fair stoppage. You could see Groves mouthing words to himself as if pleading to himself to get up, would he of beaten the count? Probably... But it was such a sickening hurtful knockdown that the fight was all but over at that point. You could could see that when Groves got up, he was all over the place a good 30 seconds after the stoppage and only recovered after a 2 mimute sitdown. Legit KO no question about it.
It's ****ing remarkable Groves got up as soon as he did, my wife (who's a nurse) thought his knee was pretty badly torn the amount of time he was lying with weight on it. No doubt he is a warrior, it's just that Froch's ability to bite down and take a shot, if he sees it coming, is unnatural. Great fight and well done both. Had Froch up a couple of rounds but seven and eight (until THAT shot) were Groves'.
Donaire/Montiel should have been waved off immediately. Froch/Groves II could have been waved off immediately. That, to me, is the difference. And a big one...
