Well I like Groves and I thought he fared well against Froch, especially during their first encounter.

But George hasn't done anything yet on a world boxing level; his biggest win was against Degale a few years ago.

I'm not trying to degrade him in any way, but he hasn't done anything up to this point in his career to make it seem like Froch's wins over him will exponentially enhance the Cobra's legacy, because at this juncture I couldn't rate Froch's win over Groves higher than his wins over true champions that Carl met earlier in his career- guys like Arthur Abraham, Jermain Taylor, Lucian Bute and Mikkel Kessler are all wins I rate MUCH higher than Froch's win over a fellow countrymen who hasn't accomplished anything yet on the world stage.

Well if we're talking about legacy enhancement that's confined to ENgland, than I'll agree that those wins help his legacy as far as him being a British fighter.

But I can tell you first hand since I'm from the States (New York,) that nobody has any idea who Carl Froch is. If you go up to 100 people in the middle of time square, you'll be lucky if 1 or 2 people out of the 100 have any idea who he even is (and that's being generous.)

The word legacy has different interpretations. Personally, the only fighters with great legacies that are currently fighting are Pacman, Floyd and Hopkins. I can't put any other active fighter in the same nomenclature with these 3 ATG's.

It was a very good win for Froch, I'm sure the win will help augment his legacy in the UK, but as far as worldwide notoriety from beating an unproven fighter like Groves, it does very little to his legacy on a global scale. I don't think Carl is well known on a global level, and I surely know that Groves is a nobody outside of the UK. NO offense, it's just the truth of the matter.

    Not the whole forum.
Just the usual DKSAB types who usually pick GGG or Calzaghe to defeat Froch. :yep

    So what?

Nothing much. Win over good 6 round fighter, horrendeous stamina and mediocre chin. I bet my house Groves will archieve next to **** after this fight.

It's not "confined to England." I don't even live in England.

Again, this is short-sighted. It entirely depends. If Groves has a HOF career, those can be the best wins of Froch's career. If he retires tomorrow, they are more what you describe.

George Groves has an entire career to box.

Usually if the forum picks a given fighter in a poll, that fighter will win.

The question really will be now how Groves can digest two consecutive stoppage losses. This must be a serious blow to him psychologically. If he can come back stronger from this down the line he will deserve a lot of praise.

I can guarantee that if you went in the middle of London the vast majority of people wouldn't have a clue who Andre Ward is, hell I bet there's plenty of Americans who haven't even heard of him. Froch will be massive over here in the U.K

With Groves he took on an upcoming, undefeated prospect. Won a challenging fight and took a rematch to clear up the muddy waters.

His career would have been worse off if he DIDN'T take the rematch. He clearly won the fight, lots of money and reputation...so now he can take another fight.

A wise choice for now, thrown to the hands of time to see how Groves career goes....imagine if he becomes a great??

Nice work if you ask me.

Froch could retire today and the IBF will have a boxoff for DeGale.

    Groves KO3 DeGale inthier rematch.

    Groves is new IBF champion.

If he really wants to improve his record he needs to face Ward. The Groves fights means nothing in comparison (and not that much in isolation either).

To truly gage this win for Froch, you must watch what Groves does from here on in.Should he struggle against no hopers then it isn't a big deal and this was just a neighbourhood fight against a very good fighter(Froch) and an undeserving challenger(Groves).
Should Groves recover and win against a top contender or two, then it means a lot more than what I ever thought.Groves needs a new trainer and someone who he will listen to.He appears way too involved and he isn't as clever as he thinks.

The facts are if Groves had landed that right hand earlier on in the first round of that first fight, he would probably have stopped Carl Froch inside one round, people would be hailing him as the next big thing, and Froch may well have retired.

Now, Froch may have won their first bout, but it was prematurely stopped, even if he was turning the tide. The second fight, as a consequence, was an extremely relevant and career-enhancing victory for Froch.

To sit here and say, Groves has done nothing but get beat twice by Froch is revisionist and a very narrow way of looking at things.

When Jean Pascal lost to Froch the same could have been said of him. But he went on to become the lineal light-heavyweight champion of the world, beating Chad Dawson, and a multiple-time world titleholder to boot.

    Context is crucial.

well these 2 stoppage wins are basically what Joe Caowardzaghe couldn't do against froch, which is why he ran from carl in terror to fight 40somethings.
