A lot of people hate Marciano because he wasn't a trash-talking gangster. So they call his opponents old and shot. These haters always happen to be huge Ali fans. It's all about age, age, age to them. But let's look at Marciano's opponents with an analytical eye. In random order: Joe Louis - 37 years old and on an 8-fight winning streak against contenders after a competitive points loss to champion Ezzard Charles. Louis was the betting favorite to beat Marciano. People who don't know boxing don't know this. If you say Louis was old, then then I could say Floyd Mayweather (also 37) was old when he beat Marcos Maidana. Jersey Joe Walcott - Haters call him "old and shot". I prefer to use facts: Walcott was the reigning, undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. And he was at the PEAK of his talent. In tip-top physical condition as always, but now much wiser than he was when he got careless and lost to Joe Louis. Walcott was 38 when he fought Marciano, the same age Wladimir Klitschko was when he beat n.1 contender Povetkin. Archie Moore - Haters call him "old and past it", because he was 39, but here is a fact: Moore was the reigning, undisputed light-heavyweight champion of the world when Marciano fought him. In the ring, they weighed the same on the night. After losing to Marciano, Moore continued to rule the light-heavyweight division. Ezzard Charles - 33 years old (the haters never mention Ezzard's age because they don't like it), he had beaten Walcott twice and so took him lightly in the 3rd fight and got caught with a great shot. When Charles fought Marciano, he was looking for redemption. In a 15-round brawl, Marciano got the decision. Ezzard is the greatest light-heavyweight of all time and one of the top ten heavyweights of all time. Rex Layne - A great prospect, he had beaten some top fighters including Joe Walcott and was expected to beat Marciano and then take the title from Ezzard Charles. Instead, Marciano knocked him out in brutal fashion, ruining his career. Roland LaStarza - He had a padded record, but he had beaten every opponent he had fought, except for a points loss to Marciano 3 years earlier. He had a slick, defensive style, with great speed. His best win was against a shopworn Rex Layne. Marciano also ruined LaStarza's career with multiple bone fractures. Don Cokkell - This guy was the British and European champion. Marciano was expected to fight him, and he knocked him out. Lee Savold - Also British and European champ. Harry "Kid" Matthews - A slick defensive light-heavyweight who beat "Irish" Bob Murphy and earned a shot at Joey Maxim's title. But Matthews decided to move up in weight and challenge Marciano instead (lots of fools even back then looked at Marciano and couldn't see the talent). He beat Freddie Beshore and a past-it Rex Layne to earn the shot, but Marciano knocked him out with a superb left hook. Muhammad Ali fans love mentioning age, but forget that his most famous win is against a 40-year-old Sonny Liston. That's going on Ali's own comments. The Liston family crest lists his birth year as 1919, making him 45 in the Ali fight. Liston biographer Paul Gallender said Liston was about 45, and the doctors who examined Liston after the Ali rematch said he had to be no younger than 38. Ali's best performance is considered the one against Cleveland Williams, a fighter who actually was shot - literally! He had actually been shot with a gun a few months before the fight. Great win! By the way, Ali fought Archie Moore too, who was 46 by then! Ali knocked him down and lifted his hands up, mocking Archie as if he had just scaled Mount Everest. What a joker. Marciano would never have done that sort of thing. He had more dignity than that. But that's why gangster idiots hate him so much! So Marciano's opponents were old and shot, folks!
Yes, Marciano was THAT good. Marciano had underrated defense, especially on the inside, where he would MURDER anyone who fought in the pocket with him. More people should utilize his style on the inside and they would be far more versatile. Haye looked like Marciano in his last fight against Chisora where he was ducking and rolling on the inside, while simultaneously delivering bombs that countered his opponents shots. Rocky did the same thing. Honestly, it's how Donaire should have fought that South African. He needed to get inside and fight him in the pocket. It's a lost art.
None of these mother ****ers are hood rats. Spoiled brats is what they are. There might be some that THINK they are hood. They ain't hood. Lil bltch boys ain't ever had to struggle. Lil pussies is what they are.
:deal Outstanding observation from someone who has actually watched Rocky fight. Marciano would destroy a slow, easy to hit, stationary target like Froch.
Took the words out of my mouth. If you examine the recent performances of those guys he fought, none of them were bad. All of them either had winning streaks going into the fight or had them after they lost to Marciano. I counted 9 top 10 fighters from Ring Magazine that Marciano beat. That's quite an accomplishment. He was the best of an average era, but that isn't his fault. I die of LOLZ when people said he would have lost to Patterson. One punch and Patterson would have been laid out. No way Marciano loses 15 rounds in a row. He would have caught him once in the fight to seal the deal.
Not even close. Marciano destroys Froch at a catch weight. I have to say I am floored that there is any kind of comparison to Marciano. Froch is a good fighter. Not close to greatness and certainly should not even be thought of in an ATG discussion. Even Marciano is very low tier ATG. He came along at the right time, fought hard and smart and got out at the right time. Having said that, Marciano is far superior to Froch.
And anyone who thinks Froch could beat him is a moron and a non boxing fan. Just a boxing troll. Marciano beat dudes in the 210-230 range. How is FROCH of all people gonna beat him? Get real. I always find that people who bash Marciano are either young and don't do any research on him or they are just plain haters.
Well, that's the thing about the Internet. You never really know who you are dealing with, from a 12 year old with minimal knowledge to a 60 year old boxing fanatic. Anyone and everyone can post. I try to remember this when I get into exchanges sometimes but it is easy to forget.
Froch the new Marciano :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl not even Close !!! Marciano is ATG F....ck all Stupid Haters Marciano was the Real Deal
Marciano had far greater puching technique, footwork , balance and over all skills. But they share the same mental strength and will to win.
Marciano had great defense, and was much harder to hit than Carl Froch. Just consider this: Marciano was always on the front foot and was only floored twice in 49 fights (by reigning world champions), both flash knockdowns. Froch took two 8-counts and was hit flush while while carelessly lunging in. Froch has often fought on the back foot, making it harder to hit him. This is not true of Marciano. Marciano defended himself while moving forward. That's what made him so hard to beat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b0yHvw-vW0
No he doesn't. He has a good chin. Froch constantly gets dropped or rocked in fights, often by single shots. He's not as defensively poor as people say. He does a somewhat decent job of pulling back from punches to avoid them, or the full impact.
Froch reminds me more of a SMW Liston. Both are slow of foot but have exceptional reaches for their divisons and shoot a powerful jab to control distance and hide their chin, when going for the kill they both utilize an effective two handed attack to the body and head. Great, great power in either hand and intimidating presence. I guess people bring up Marciano because they are both white or something. They have nothing in common. An Arthur Abraham who actually lets his hands go and moves his head would be the closet thing to a Maricano going.
Froch gets hit a lot, he fights everyone and he has only been down twice very briefly. That's a pretty damn good chin.
