There are many fighters who have taken the leap and lost early in their career but still went on to secure their own great legacy. Can Groves continue on from here and do it or did that ship sail last night?
I'm sure he could be he needs a better trainer ..He could boxed Froch's ears off but for some reason he chose to engage with him.
Good point. I really hope to see more of him. I quite like his style and he has decent speed and power. I hope he has the mentality to come back from his losses. It wouldn't even be a talking point if it was back in the day but the impact a loss can have on a fighter's career these days can be so detrimental it's untrue.
Yeah, the mentality of the fighter involved is key, you definitely need the right mentality to bounce back. I mentioned Pacquiao and Martinez specifically because they have the most similarities to Groves imo. Both got stopped when young and like Groves, have a style that relies on speed, power and movement. Khan is another example, Haye also got stopped and Wlad has been stopped too.
Rafa and Juan Manuel Marquez, Jose Luis Castillo, Bernard Hopkins, Alexis Arguello, Salvador Sanchez, Eusebio Pedroza, Manny Pacquiao, Marco Antonio Barrera didn't lose very early on, but he did reinvent himself. In Groves case, he has good boxing skills, but I think the gameplan of not throwing the right hand till the later rounds backfired for Team Groves. The right hand was the only good thing going for Groves and then then his corner orders to stop throwing it to save it for later? Wtf? It also seemed Groves was too desperate and eager for a ko win. Instead he got ko'd. Takes a great fighter to beat Froch and Groves is very good, but not great.
