He would benefit from a change of location after this defeat , the manner he lost in will hurt him , start fresh , new location , new focus , less pressure , dont think it would happen with the new promoters though
I'm not one for blaming trainers, but who thinks Groves received bad advise or had a bad game plan? Rob McCracken seemed to be spot on with his approach. I know that punch would have knocked anyone out but I feel they could have approached things differently and fought with Groves' strengths more.
I think you're right. He seemed to fight the wrong fight to me. Even moreso in my eyes as I had Froch winning most rounds even though Groves clearly felt he was doing 'well' until he was stopped.
Groves needs a good trainer, if he were to do so he would become a world champion. I think Roach would be good for him................
He didnt get beat up, he got tagged with a belter of a single shot. Would happen again and again if he stood still after catching a left hook and waiting to see what was coming after it. He was in great shape both physically and mentally and clearly had a gameplan. Roach would ensure Groves got chinned more often an an elite level.
I can't really knock paddy as I don't know the guy. My instincts tell me the first fight would not have had the same ending had Booth been in the corner but who knows. I never think it is a great idea when the fighter is in charge of the corner. And to me thats what it looks like. George needs someone he respects and listens to maybe even over himself. Booths anaylsis of the fight was pretty good. I think George got complacent and paid the price. Same as Lewis vs Rahman. Someone like Lockett might be a good match for him. But I'm certainoly no expert on these things and George is his own man.
Groves needs to concentrate on his boxing and leave all negotiations to a manager, and training procedure to a trainer, if he learns one thing from Froch it's just stick to the ring work and get a team around you,for every thing else.
No, Groves has come on a lot as a fighter since that fight. I felt Groves should have once again looked to hold the centre of the ring as he did in the first fight except been more conservative with his shots. I had him 4-3 up in the second fight before Froch landed his right hand bomb, so he wasn't exactly doing himself an injustice I just think he could have been more effective in the second fight. Groves has bags of ability, I'm sure he'll bounce back and we'll see him crowned a world champion in the near future.
Groves has the beating of Froch and will forever be disappointed for letting himself down. He was going for the check hook to counter Frochs right hand but he was throwing it from a static position. If you look at Floyd or other good check hookers they always throw it as they are moving to the right or moving back. Groves was standing his ground and countering a straight right hand with a wide hook. This is just a terrible thing to do & I said to myself in the 3rd or 4th round that it was a fine line between what he was doing and getting caught with a straight right, and im sure a lot of boxing people saw that right hand coming at some point. There is no harm in throwing a check hook as a counter for when someone is coming in but you have to be moving back or to the side as you throw it.
