This video of joe cal vs Reid take note of the over hand (right hook) Reid was landing then go watch the tony vs nune fight and u see that was James toney a best punch against a south paw http://youtu.be/AikBb3DrrRc I am just saying joe would of eaten toneys right hands all night till he got stopped
my beast guess, is that calzaghe feigns a hand injury and the goes off to fight will McIntyre rematch.
James Toney had the best counter right hand in the business and Calzaghe has eaten counter rights also getting knocked down by em.
atsch Yeah then go watch Toney against Tiberi and reassess Remind me again of Toneys SMW pedigree... Watch the ducks
Toney defended against such top SMW comp look at the level Toney was fighting at, when SMW champ 1993 he wins the title from iran barkley a fighter who years earlier was blown away by nigel benn in 1 round and pummelled to a loss by a shot roberto duran barkley went onto lose 11 out of 25 fights following this fight and never beat anyone who was remotely good in doing so,the guy was so desperate he was even plying his trade as a HW in the late 90's against the likes of berbick and they say this era is a joke govonor chambers a guy with a career record of 9 wins 7 losses, all 3 fights prior to toney were ko losses! ricky thomas: won 11 lost 14,the 4 fights he had prior to toney all losses! glenn thomas:won 29 lost 8, lost to roy jones prior to toney and finished his career with a first round ko loss to jeff lacy. danny garcia: won 30 lost 22, was coming off losses to chris pyatt (a steve collins victim) lamar parks etc larry prather: won 19 lost 24,lost his last 5 fights prior to the toney fight even losing to nicky piper tony thornton: won 37 lost 7,lost to chris eubank a year earlier. anthony hembrick: won 31 lost 8,lost to maske prior to toney and orlin norris a year earlier. tim littles: won 27 lost 3,maybe one of his better wins, had fought mainly bums with the exception of a close UD over frankie liles, went onto lose to frankie liles in a 2nd contest following the toney fight. vinsom durham: won 21 lost 37 enough said. charles williams: won 37 lost 7 drew 3,lost to maske prior to toney. This content is protected and finally the Jones fight and, That was Jones big SMW victory where Toney was alledgedly weight weakend, other than that Jones didnt do much at SMW.
So Toney couldnt beat S Williams at first ask, many felt he was fortunate against D Tiberi and he lost to Thadzi, but suddenly he would be able knock out the greatest SMW ever, who was never on bambi legs once in his career. Who did Toney KO at SMW that gives you this impression? This question will be ducked
would be such a great fight, great clash of style I dont think joe could overwehlm toney with them flurries and if he came at him all agressive I think toney could knock him out if he used his legs all fight with light punching then he could outpoint him but its a hard one to call
Calzaghe lacks firepower to hurt Toney and he certainly isnt the better boxer. With him coming in straight lines and with all the shots hitting air and Toney shoulders Toney would counter him all night. Toney ud or late stoppage. I dont see Calzaghe doing much, as he gets stronger during the fight Toney get more relaxed and he adapts very easy. Too bad he had such a bad lifestyle. Too bad this hypothetical fights never happened.
First off he's far from the greatest SMW ever ! Toney at 168 was ten times the boxer Joe ever was with Knock out power ! And he was dropped by guys who weren't known to be power punchers Saelm and Hopkins are 2 examples of that genius ! And who did he KO at SMW oh I don't know Micahel Nunn comes to mind !
people bring up Toney's loss to Thadzi but by that point he was so beyond his prime it makes no sense to compare it. then again, Calzaghe's only big names (plus a robbery vs Hopkins) come against people past their prime so maybe not. either way, Toney easily beats and possibly KOs the bum. Bumzaghe is no McCallum or Michael Nunn, and he doesnt have the skills to do what Roy Jones did
Predictable Toney love. He lost to a journeyman Dave Tiberi. I saw that fight on free television and Tiberi beat Toney's butt. What a disgusting robbery that decision was. No way Joe Calzaghe would ever lose to a lesser fighter like that under any circumstance. That is why Joe went undefeated throughout his career. Toney had mental breakdowns throughout his career and would have been destroyed by the much mentally tougher Joe had they ever fought. His volume punching alone would have had Toney reeling just like it did Hopkins and Jones. They both did well early and then wilted under the constant barrage. And that was when Joe's hands were shot. Early in his career Joe hit very hard. Just ask Chris Eubank.
