Watching Froch-Groves again I am always amazed at how slow Froch's punches appear to be.
This is especially true watching Froch when he throws his left hook.
When he throws it, it is as though you can see him draw back his left arm and wind it up before he throws it. When he does throw, it is as if he has a 50lb slughammer in his left hand and is throwing it at head level. The punch moves so slow that usually his opponent has plenty of time to raise his right mitt to block it.
Still, Froch must hit with a lot of force because even the blocked hook seemed to have an impact on Groves, and while he was recovering he got hit and knocked out by Froch's straight right.

Froch's punches may be super slow, by they must carry a lot of power.

During the match I remember Roy Jones commenting that he thought that Groves punched harder than Froch.
I can't really believe that Jones actually believes that or he said it to mesh with the less boxing aware majority to whom he was speaking.
Froch definitely punches harder than Groves, and takes the better shot as well.

They both seem to have good power. It is hard to say who definitely hits harder. Maybe ask Glen Johnson.

Froch seems heavy-handed, every shot has is a hard shot.

Groves seems to mainly have a great right hand, every shot might not be as hard as Froch's but when Groves throws that big right hand with bad intentions, it might just be harder than any of Froch's punches.

The combination that produced the knockout was a throw away left hook to get Groves to bite and try to counter, then the straight right came fast and true. The left hook had nothing on it at all.

The blocked left hand didn't have any kind of significant impact on Groves on a physical level. It did however manage to move his mental focus, which allowed for the right hand to connect and knock him out.
It was not a very elegant setup and most fighters wouldn't have lowered their left guard and completely ignored the right from Froch.

Froch in general throws a lot of punches only utilizing his upper body and there's no real power in those. He can land some hard punches, but it's wrong to say that all of his punches are powerful.

Froch is definitely more heavyhanded than Groves.
Groves has much more speed on his right hand, and he throws it straighter and more accurately than Froch.

Froch's right hand is not as fast, slower, but has more weight and power behind it than Groves. At best Groves's right hand could only aggitate or stun Froch while Froch landing cleanly can actually KO Groves.:yep

That blocked left hook was thrown exactly the same as the other 4-5 left hooks Froch threw previously. They look so slow and weak, but Froch's heavyhands have deceiving power.

I remember in one of the Super SIx 360 episodes Kessler laughing about how slow Froch's uppercut was.

That is more likely to be the result of each fighters punch resistance than their punching power.

Indeed. Many people made comparisons to the combo that Lennox Lewis finished Hasim Rahman with.

Yea he set him up by after throwing that left hook he would go to the body he did it over and over and over the same thing left hook body left hook body then out of the blue goes left hook and bang, groves was expecting a body shot.

    Naw.
Not as much as the power and timing of the punch thrown.

Groves hit Froch with many right hands, while the few right hands Froch connected with starting in four 5 greatly effected Groves due to the power they carried.

Froch hit guys like Pascal and Kessler with more punches and they did not get stopped. If Groves hit Pascal and Kessler he probably would not stop them either. It is because of punch resistance. When Froch hits guys like Bute, he stops them. If Groves hit Bute with his big right hand as many times as Froch did, he would also probably stop him. It is because of punch resistance.

Froch might hit harder than Groves or Groves might hit harder than Froch but there is not a big difference between them in terms of punching power. There is however a big difference between them in terms of punch resistance, experience and stamina.

I liked that twirling uppercut he used throw but he seems to of done away with it now.
