One's ability to take a punch without getting hurt/how much punishment a person is able to take without succumbing to it. For example a punch that would knock out Amir Khan might not even drop Antonio Margarito because Margarito has better punch resistance.

Go back to Froch Groves I and watch the RH haymaker 30 seconds before the end that led to finishing sequence - Carl actually pauses, sets his feet, lines up the punch and then, finally, lets go. Almost like it's in damn Slo-mo. How he gets away with the s#it baffles me, yet somehow he makes it work... seems to me something to do with a combination of experience and endurance - an ability to think clearly and make his body do what he wants when other fighters are reaching the point of phyisical and mental exhaustion.

 

Good post. Froch had a good amateur career and is a savvy vet. When you don't have the fastest hands it's timing that pays dividends. Froch times his punches well with solid power, has enormous heart, and a good chin. Those ingredients will take you a long way.

 

Groves became fatigued which added to the effectiveness of Froch's shots. When you're tired EVERYTHING your opponent lands will hurt.

Jones jr's pre fight opinion about who punches harder isnt far off. Groves floored Carl with 1 big shot in the opening round of the 1st fight and had him badly shaken. Froch punches doesnt seem to effect Groves until Groves gets tired after the middle rounds

 

Froch downfall is Handspeed that's one of the reasons he lost to ward

 

ye but froch was caught cold, theres another factor. after a few rounds he ate groves punches. i think groves wasnt getting hit as flush and much as froch, he got hit with a few decent jabs, but once the rights rain in, groves couldnt handle the power. i said it before the fight, groves aint tough enough. :verysad
but someone react differently to different types of power.

fonfara handled stevenson's explosive power very well although he got dropped and wobbled, i dont think he'd handle the bludgeoning power of kovalev though.
thats why hagler got as many ko's as hearns did. and why GGG holds the record for best ko% ratio at middleweight history.
that bludgeoning power is really damaging to the opponent, froch has it to a lesser degree.

 

Although Golovkin is in a lower weight division, he would knock Froch out, he would outbox Froch, set him up and knock him out. Froch wants to fight Chavez,Jr. next. Ward will not fight a rematch with Froch unless it's in his home town with his personal referee, judges, boxing commission, etc., SOB Ward is afraid of Stevenson, even at 168 and has said that Kovalev is too big for him...........let Ward stay in court............
