I think Froch looks at it this way: His next loss will be the end of his career. Ward is the toughest fight out there for him, and he'd rather achieve other things he'd like to achieve, win more winnable fights and not rematch Ward until he has to. He is somewhat ducking Ward, but I don't think Froch is the kind of guy who's afraid of Andre Ward, or even afraid of losing to him. I think he just thinks there's a time and a place for everything. I think he thinks he can continue for a few more years, but would not be averse to taking a Ward rematch as his last fight.
I'd call it ducking if they hadn't already fought but his situation is pretty much the same as Marquez fighting Mayweather again
The thing is Ward is a stinker, his fighting style is **** to sell it big, so if I were Froch I wont fight him again at the very end .. Chavez would be a nice fight, their styles could make it a war, a more interesting fight than ward could ever deliver.. Ward is full of sh..t, let him fight Direll, so sh..t fights sh..t :deal
I think Froch knows he will lose in what would probably be a predictable, somewhat boring fight. It mightn't even draw a lot of fans in. That is because of Wards style. Froch can't beat it bar the lucky KO. If he knows that, fair call, move on to a bigger payday, a more exciting opponent and still keep a good reputation and record. He is accepting the second spot in the division.
To be a duck, Ward has to be "in the way" in some regard. Ward is not relevant at the moment. Hes in a lawsuit with his promoter, and he doesnt draw money. If Froch doesnt care about Ward's belt, theres zero incentive to fight Ward other than pleasing a few folks who inhabit boxing forums.
He has proven himself to be the best in the division...even against Froch. He is also the highest p4p guy in the division. That is unquestionable and for many people the most important thing.
It's a weird situation when a challenger of a perceived champion is accused of ducking, especially when they have already fought. It's also weird when the challenger has more to lose than the champion in terms of marketability after a loss. I can't blame any champion for wanting to cash out near the end of their career. Boxing is a hard sport and all too many champions end up broke, a boxer has a finite window to make good money in his career, best to take advantage of it when the opportunity is there. I think this is especially true for Froch who has spent his entire career looking for the toughest fights. If anyone deserves a little leeway it's Froch. Also Ward really hasn't even been available for a rematch. After the super 6 he took a holiday and didn't fight for 9 months and then fought Dawson. Ward was then out with an injury until November last year when Froch had to fight his mandatory Groves. Since then he's been in a legal dispute with Goosen. Hard to duck a fighter when he simply isn't there to duck. Even now Ward is still tied up with his legal dispute for the foreseeable future, pointless in even negotiating any possible fight.
Andre Ward is ducking Stevenson at 168 and Kovlaev at 175. Froch wanted to fight in UK, but Ward will only fight in his home town with his personal referee, judges, boxing commission, ring, gloves, etc., let Ward rot in court...................
That´s the thing: Ward is available. His promoter is obligated to get him fights. If Goosen fails to deliver then Ward can finally get rid of him. If Ward turns down a fight then it still counts as a fight for Goosen. And let´s not forget all the smack talk Froch has been doing. They have been talking **** about Ward for years now and have opted not to fight him. Froch does call himself a champion... some champion he is.
A big fight with stevenson is available now, and stevenson said he would come down to 168, so where is sob now?
Froch has gone on record several times saying if Andre Ward was willing to travel and a 50/50 deal moneywise the fight would happen. Those terms Andre views as ridiculous. So Ward won't get a fight with Froch, Golovkin, Stevenson, Kovalev, Hopkins, Chavez Jr or anyone until he extracts himself from his anus and realises he has zero box office appeal.
This is pretty much it. Boxing has moved forward from the days when people wanted to prove they wanted to be the best, but one thing that hasn't changed and that is boxing is a prizefighting sport. Its got to make sense money wise to make it happen. I love watching boxing but even I don't fancy waking up at 4am to watch Froch fight Ward in a snooze fest. Ward maybe the best SMW on the planet, but he simply is too boring to watch. Froch could make much more exciting fights that would make more money than Ward. Unless it gets made in Vegas, then I can't see it happening. The funny thing is Ward is American yet he would struggle to make it happen in Vegas. No one wants to see him!
The mans entitled to fight who he wants at this stage in his career. Hwe doesnt want to fight Ward again to make more money, thats his decision. But can we all agree that them not fighting has NOTHING git to do with Ward "not wanting to travel"??
it would be nice to see andre travel more now hes got back to his best. although the prospect of fighting in Britain after the burns cheating stitchup, and cleverly getting carried back to his corner by the welsh ref (WTF???), for instance, cant be appealing. But, and I make this point not lightly, it is obvious that ward is not being a cowardzaghe.
