That's terrible split to agree on. His management sucks balls.

--Martinez has a $1.4 million purse for the fight, while Chavez Jr has a $3 million purse.--

Not a bad offer. His biggest payday and if he beats Cotto, specially with a KO, bigger paydays await. Canelo next?

I wish when someone makes a post like this they would source it, include a link.

Seems WAY out of line to me, regardless of Cotto filling MSG. I hope Martinez makes a mint of the PPV side. I have never heard of a split being this one-sided.

Lou was the only one to give him a chance. Lou got him on HBO, Lou got him the MW belt, Lou got him on PPVs.

BN24 is the source and btw why does everyone
Fail to realize that cotto really is the best
Opponent that Sergio has ever fought let's cut the ****
Already...Sergio has three great wins on his resume and that's
Pavlik Williams and Chavez jr...and was almost beat against
Martin Murray,Chavez jr and struggled against other B level fighters

Hatton made more money than his opponents it served his hospital bills well when he was KTFO ! So im sure the same can be said for Cotto once he is streched by Maravilla ! But he he's more popular right.

Maybe Martinez should have insisted the fight be in Argentina. It would of sold out some soccer stadium that seats more than the seating arrangement at the Garden, and he could have gotten the lions share of the purse. I assume that Martinez will be getting all of the Argentinean, and most of the South American PPV money.

I think you ate the ****. The Paul Williams that Martinez fought would have beat the brakes off of Cotto. Too much size, reach, movement, and work rate. Cotto wouldn't of had **** for him. Kelly Pavlik would have wiped his arse with Cotto. It would have been an early to mid rounds stoppage. Cotto probably would have been outboxed by Dzinziruk at 154 as well.

I like Cotto, but I don't care if he calls the shots. That is a BAD purse split.

Yeah but popularity sells tickets and PPV buys. Remember that fans, as with all professional sports, run everything.

As bad as this split is, it's nowhere near the disparity of a Mayweather or Pacquiao opponent. I've never agreed with splits being so lopsided, but I understand it's just the nature of the beast. If there's someone to blame, it's Martinez and his management team.
