I mean Oscar trusted this guy and made him CEO. Oscar had the name and credibility and the starting capital net worth of more than 100 million when they started about 10 years or so ago.

Then 10 years later and now, all of a sudden just because Richard Schaefer is doing fine and made friends with Floyd and Haymon, now he suddenly leaves Oscar just because Oscar is having personal problems and Oscar is trying to work things out with Top Rank.

What do you think? Is he a user and didn't really care about Oscar after all these years or is joining Floyd who was bad mouthing Oscar all his life while Schaefer was still with GBP a justified and honest decision?

I mean I have a lot of respect for Oscar and PBF because they are actually fighters and been in the ring, bled, got hit with punches, they have the balls to be in the ring and so they are the true promoters or at least qualified to be one.

Then this clean cut in a suit banker comes in tries to spoil the party.

    Vote and Explain :deal

All I'd like to know is HOW Schaffer allowed Haymon to be able to get away with signing all these fighters while Oscar's company put them on prob under the assumption (By Oskee) that "they" were all actually signed with GoldenBoy Promotions.

Something not right about that picture. :think

So you think Schaefer got manipulated by Haymon and Mayweather? Or you think Schaefer was in on it and hated Oscar all along?

Me personally I think as Schaefer is probably just the kind of guy who's out to feather his own nest. But he's a businessman and like politicians they all **** in the same pot.

he's a grimy piece of chett....kid you not, everytime I've met someone from the goldenboy fam, whether Oscar, shane or many other fighters....Richard was always the one in the back talking ****, being grumpy, telling fans to leave etc etc...all while guys like Oscar, shane, jmm and many more were more than happy to meet and greet fans.....around that time, no one aside from die hard fans knew who he was...and I got the feeling he was those type of dudes that wanted his presence felt...like if he was almost mad that no one knew who he was or something....

It just ain't as simple as the poll suggests - in business everyone is self-interested, but this is generally harnessed to the interests of the employer so that (in theory) both employer and employee benefit.

What appears to have happned is that at some point Schaeffer, SHO and Haymon realised they could be in the position to make a play for the monopoly control of US boxing promotion and distribution - in principal this could, if successful have been a huge benefit to GBP if and this critical in answering this question - if GBP promotions was going to to be the key player in this new - UFC style outfit.

To me it appears that Schaeffer & Co realised at some point that Oscar and GBP were the bottleneck in the operation - after all, why do you need a promoter if you're only ever going to deal with one broadcaster? Why not just ask the Broadcaster themselves what dates they have and what their budget is? Cut out the middleman and you can streamline the whole process, save some $s and afford to pay to get the best fighters - maybe only in a coupla weightclasses at first - but as the money starts to come in....?

Only problem is that it ain't entirely legal... that ol' fukker Ali got the law past in 1999 that created a firewall betwen management and promotional duties to ensure that someone was legally responsible if a fighter got screwed over. It means that the fighters direct representative - his manager - can be held legally responsible for failing to make the best deals possible for his client.

Anyways - back to topic - it seems to me that Schaeffer has taken a huge and more significantly - possibly illegal - risk with ODLHs company, but one which, if successful could have made the company huge profits. The question which remains unanswered is whether Schaeffer was ultimately working to benefit GBP as an entity or whether he knew of and was working towards a longer term plan (with outside intrests) which he had to understand would damage the financial interests of his employer. If the latter can be proven, Schaeffer has broken the law.

Middleman? Whose this middleman? What purpose does a ceo of a promoting company have for removing longterm contracts with fighters for? That is obviously counter to the point of running a promotional company no? Is it just a coincidence that Haymon was able to sweep these contracts away from GBP?

"Possibly illegal" hmm, interesting. Just possibly? Really?

Where are these huge profits? According to Glaser, GBP have not turned much of a profit under Schaefer. And lately it's starting to look like the general paying PPV audience is not willing to pay for these crap fights. Floyd is losing his PPV charm because ppl are no longer buying these staged farces.

And then without any fighters under contract, what incentive is there for GBP to front these costly PPV events? You realize PPV events require large investments right? Without longterm contracts, they have no source of income and are at the mercy of a fighters whim. Why would GBP continue to front the millions needed to produce PPV events without a clear and reliable stream of revenue, ie. fighters under contract?
