Brähmer is jabbing up into the guard and slapping hooks onto Bolonti's head from outside, tying up when Bolonti comes bulling in. Rabbit punches in the clinch by Bolonti, cleverly spinning Brähmer in a bearhug so that he is landing on the far side from the ref's line of sight, with his own back to the official. That's all Bolonti is getting through with for the most part. Brähmer dances around popping right jabs from stomach or armpit height, changing it up a bit and keeping Bolonti watching the birdie. Legitimate right hand chop by Bolonti on the outside, grazing Brähmer's left temple. More jabs and continuously flowing movement by Brähmer.

He's such an on off fighter, looked great in the first Huck fight then gets dominated in the rematch.

Beats Drozd and loses to Herelius... How does that even happen.

Part of why I like him - that and being such a late bloomer and being such a hardworking gym rat even at his age, with his opportunities drying up, not caring how much of a lost cause his title chase may seem. :good

Brähmer clashes in the middle of the ring with Bolonti as both throw straight rear hand power shots. Right jabs while circling by Brähmer, singles and doubles. Bolonti is ducking in, showing a left jab feint and drumming on the body with his right. Brähmer clinches, releases, and works left uppercuts to the body as Bolonti is set adrift.

Round 12

Brähmer is throwing right jabs and short left uppercuts as he catches Bolonti in a headlock grinding in. Bolonti twists in Brähmer's grip and exposes the back of his own head, making Brähmer land rabbit punches in front of the ref. Wild right hook over the back by Brähmer as Bolonti ducks in front of him. Bolonti comes up pummeling, landing a few of his gavels on the side of the head and the rest on the shoulders of Brähmer, backing him up. Bolonti is tied up and hits Brähmer on the backside with a clubbing right. Bolonti is coming on strong, BIG LEFT HOOK BY BOLONTI. Brähmer was dipping to his left and nearly knocked into an off-balance teeter with all his weight on that leg, but steadied himself with the aid of Bolonti, grabbing onto him just in time. Light flurries of right and left body hooks by Brähmer jumping around Bolonti. Jab and left uppercut by Brähmer, blocked as Bolonti leans forward. Bolonti sweeps his entire body aside to dodge a Brähmer right hook and lands a grazing left hook on the jaw. Clinch. Uppers to the body by Bolonti.

You give him a chance against YPH?

Huck fought a great fight last time out, and I think he stands a better chance against Hernandez.

YPH is not great when backing up and I question his toughness, If Arslan is hungry and gets on him early whilst looking out for that sneaky L hand then I give him a decent chance.

Brahmer needs a big fight now.

The Cleverly, Shumenov and Kovalev fights that were postponed would have all been V interesting.

Good performance overall though.

 

Brahmer has talent but is one of the most protected fighters out there. He will have fights like this the rest of his career. He will never step up. The point taken from Bolonti was total German Reffing BS. If you turn your head after someone throws a punch expect to be a big boy and get hit.

 

I scored the fight for Braehmer, 10-2 rounds, 118-109 points, giving Bolonti the 10th and 12th rounds, and factoring in the point deduction against Bolonti in the 8th. I thought the 5th, 9th, and 10th rounds were the closest, and the 5th and 10th were the most difficult to score. The entire fight was fought at a moderate pace in the centre of the ring, and Braehmer was in control for the majority of the fight, dictating the pace, outworking and outlanding Bolonti, and keeping him at distance by establishing his jab and straight lefts, often in combination. Braehmer also landed a number of 3-4 punch combinations, usually starting with the jab and ending with a digging left hook to the body. He also landed a few single and double left hooks to the body, an occasional left or right hook to the head, and a few rare uppercuts. Bolonti hardly threw a punch in the 1st, landed his first meaningful punch with a right to the head with 1:15 left in the 2nd, then for the next several rounds mostly missed with wild looping lefts and rights to the head, sometimes when initiating exchanges, sometimes when countering Braehmer's straighter punches; he did land an occasional straight R-L to the head, and an occasional body shot. Early in the 7th, Bolonti landed his best punch of the fight to that point with a left hook to the head, but Braehmer was unmoved. In fact, other than Bolonti incurring a nosebleed later in the 7th, neither fighter landed any punches of consequence in the fight, and neither fighter was remotely buzzed. In the 8th, the fighters started clinching more often, and halfway through that round, Bolonti was warned when while in a clinch, he landed a right hand marginally behind Braehmer's head; later in the round, Bolonti again while in a clinch landed a chopping right hand marginally behind Braehmer's head, and he was deducted 1 point. In the last 4 rounds, the clinches became very frequent, and Bolonti had his best successes of the fight from punching while in clinches, mostly looping shots to the head, with some occasional shots to the body. Bolonti won the 10th with three rights to the body and three chopping rights to the head while in clinches. He also won the 12th with a sequence of five chopping rights, then a L-R to the head, a nice left hook to the head with 1:10 left in the round (probably his best punch of the fight), and another chopping right; all those punches except for the left hook occurred while the fighters were in clinches. At the final bell, both fighters were happy and smiling, Braehmer because he knew he easily won the fight, Bolonti probably because he was happy with his effort. The three official scorecards of 118-109 and 119-108 x2 were very much in line with what happened in the fight. The postfight interview was of course conducted in German; at one point, Braehmer was asked about Bernard Hopkins, and while I don't know what he said, his answer was kind of lengthy, so maybe Braehmer is open to fighting Hopkins at some point.

Yeah, he probably does want a shot at the old man but Hopkins vs. Brähmer could be the most boring light heavyweight championship unification in history.

(and I say this as someone who often defends them both against frequent accusations of making for unpleasant television...)
