Cotto is simply a notch above Sergio. Always has been.

You young fans get caught up in hype too easily. WHO had Sergio beaten who was truly a world class fighter?

Pavlik? Drunk and fought with a Staph Infection.

Chavez? Trained for 5 days for Sergio.

    Williams? Hype.

Let this be a lesson to you kids.

LOL, chavez can train for 50 years and will still get schooled everyday by martinez. Chavez is a walking bum. Its true tho, martinez resume has been lacking. Cotto has been the best skilled boxer he has faced.

PfP yes, Cotto is the better fighter. But Martinez being the bigger guy and Cotto moving to a weigh class he never fought before, I had my doubts. I honestly thought Cotto was too small for Sergio. Great at job onCotto's part.

I had hoped that people on this forum would not take what happened tonight too far but I was wrong. If anyone has been watching boxing for the last 5 years they would know that was not Sergio Martinez who was in the ring tonight, it was a shell of himself. Cotto looked good, but he also caught Martinez at the right time.

cotto has never been a great fighter, hes very good and better than most, but not great. pac clearly showed us the difference in that. martinez showed the reflexes of a middle aged man and that aint gonna cut it against a world class fighter when your whole style revolves around quick reflexes.

martinez pre chavez jr would have ktfo cotto. the 12th round against chavez jr took martinez soul. i had a very bad feeling about martinez health coming into this fight. i am not sold on cotto, he got schooled by trout and beat up a skeleton in rodriguez and now a crippled, one knee, old man, peg leg pirate in martinez. canelo would destroy cotto and if they get u to buy into that as a comeptitive fight YDKSAB.

I agree. Martinez was hugely overrated here on ESB, which is why I've always been a bit of a hater.

Pavlik was weight-drained and didn't really have the boxing skills and precision punching needed to beat Martinez, and I still thought that fight should have been called a draw. Pavlik scored a legit knockdown.

Williams was another guy with limited skills, gangly and easy to hit. Martinez hit him and knocked him out. Good win, but we still didn't know how Sergio would do against a man with SKILLS.

Chavez, a man with a good chin, a decent skills but who (according to everyone in the gym) didn't train seriously. He sparred 5 times according to Roach. Martinez was floored but won on points.

Two guys with real skills called Sergio out: Golovkin and Pirog, both major title-holders in Sergio's weight class. Sergio ducked them.

Cotto is the only skilled fighter that Martinez ever fought. It was a complete shut-out. Roach told us before the fight that Martinez had "terrible defense", and that Cotto would stop him easily.

Was that before or after Freddie Roach. Legend Roach has put the work in to improve Cotto.
