As Champs are not be ranked by the other sanctioning bodies GGG will most likely never become mandatory for the lineal title. Will anyone step up and challenge the man? When will we next see an undisputed champ in the middleweight division? Cotto doesn't need to fight the other titlists he's a legit legend that deserves to fight who ever he wants. As a fan I want to see who the real top dog is, is GGG really the man, will he ever get the big fights?
I believe it to be highly likely that he will be blackballed, unless his exposure and following are somehow increased - the plan for the Jr fight. If he keeps winning like he has been, perhaps he'll be unavoidable...
no, Cotto is too smart to get into a ring with a beast in his prime in GGG for a lot less than let's say a Canelo figt or Floyd rematch would bring
GGG is getting the big push by HBO (thankfully), the Geale fight will be as MSG & now that GBP & TR are friendly again I can see GGG fighting Quillen, Cotto taking on Soliman & then Canelo should he beat Lara & the winner eventually fighting GGG for all the marbles, which I expect to be Canelo vs GGG.
Is Quillin oficially a GBP fighter or is he with Schaeffer/Haymon? I know Quillin fights on GBP undercards.
I don't think GGGs gonna get the lineal shot anytime soon - risk / reward ratios's just all wrong. Nonetheless, I have to consider him the man at 160 - which is just kinda odd given the thinness of his resume. Beating a two time titlist in Geale will at least add some credibility to his claim though.
Cotto isn't fighting Golovkin anytime soon simply because there are bigger money fights available. Mayweather rematch and Alvarez are both off the charts PPVs - why fight Golovkin when these fight can easily get made?
If in a parallel universe there were constant super six like tournaments to identify who really is the man at each weight. Otherwise no. Cotto will look for easier money, maybe Soliman or Quillan, maybe even Geale if he performs well but loses to GGG. I think Cotto will take an easier fight or two before losing against Canelo or PBF.
Because Mayweather and Canelo are not middleweights. Ring rated #1 and #2 middleweights are fighting each other next month. That gives all parties involved about 5 months to work out the details for the lineal middleweight champion's next fight in December. Also WBC Interim belt holder Marco Antonio Rubio is the mandatory challenger for the WBC middleweight title. The lineal middleweight champion has obligations at middleweight.
