Discrediting Cotto's victory over Martinez has NOTHING to do with Mayweather. If Mayweather beat that version of Martinez, he'd be CRUCIFIDE.

No. That's not something I will criticize him for. Hagler never wanted to jump to 175 and face Qawi/Spinks, Leonard didn't want to go to 160 and fight Hagler until he saw slippage in Marvin, Monzon didn't care to fight Foster at 175.

For not fighting Pacquiao however, he (along with Manny and Arum) deserves nothing but criticism.

Cotto did something special in his own right Martinez wasnt the same, but that was obvious from his last fight but even not being the same he pulled it off last time but not this time

 

PBF may well have done it but it probably didn't make business sense. He would probably have had to deal with Arum.

Congrats to Cotto but to me this was a very brave and smart cherrypick. Cotto would never have beaten Sergio at his best IMHO.

Rematches happen in boxing. Cotto + Roach is a different fighter than Cotto + Diaz. Pedro wanted to change Cotto into a Cuban boxer/puncher. His methods did not work at all. Freddie is the better coach and teacher. Plus, he has a proven S&C coach in the team now and is having optimal training.

Cotto fought Mayweather with a shitty gameplan and mediocre conditioning, and still gave Floyd a tough fight. Watch Floyd give every excuse not to grant Cotto a rematch.

 

These are nothing but excuses. Sure, Cotto has looked good, but he's also faced a ESPN level figther and a 39 year old fighter coming off back to back knee surgeries and a year of inactivity in his last two fights. He looked good in his prior 3 fights before fighting Mayweather the first time. Freddie Roach can't magically transform Cotto at the age 33, going on 34.

 

ONCE AGAIN, HOW DOES THE 7 MILLION DOLLAR MAN DICTATE TERMS TO THE 41 MILLION DOLLAR MAN +. Why, are there no answers!!

 

If you're a casual fan, I could buy that reasoning. But you appear to follow the sport, so something like this should not be a foreign idea to you. That's like saying any elite sports team can win it all without their coaching staff. It isn't looked at as an excuse, but a likely reason why a fighter such as Cotto has not performed to his full capabilities. There lots of fighters like that, that can benefit and elevate with the right personal in their corner. You cannot overlook key issues like this in any sport, let alone boxing.
