Did Calzaghe avoid Ottke like the plague?

"For us it's just not serious any more," Sauerland said. "Calzaghe is talking about all the people he wants to fight.
"We've been talking about a meeting for three years and all serious approaches have come from us. That's why I say the topic is dead.

"Sven has done enough for his reputation, while Calzaghe usually fights opponents two years after everyone else."

Any truth to this? Did Calzaghe avoid Ottke?

Calzaghe avoided who? Ottke who only wanted to fight in his native country? LOL

He fought BHOP, Jones and unbeaten Lacy - which caliber of fighters did Ottke fight? Bums all over Europe?

Like the plague? Ottke was far worse than the plague. Sure they both wreaked havoc on Europe but nobody will tell me the plague didn't rightfully earn every damn thing it got. It didn't just set up in one place and reap the benefits of help from corrupt local officials. It had the balls to go on the road. The plague. Now there was a real champion. Calzaghe would definitely have tried to avoid the plague. But alas few could.

Has Calzaghe ever made any public attempts to make this fight? Why didn't he get Ottke to the UK for a big stadium fight like they did with Kessler.

I think Calzaghe and w.a.r.r.e.n wanted the fight, they were willing to fight Ottke in Germany. But in reality there was never enough money in the fight for the fight to be worth while.

Calzaghe safety first career meant he wasn't a draw back then. His offer of $1 million for Ottke to face him was less than what Ottke was making already. Ottke was rumoured to be making 2 million euros per fight which was more than Calzaghe was making at the time.

Ottke would only fight in Germany and after the robin Reid bent fight no one with half a brain cell would fight him in Germany

    if so who cares ??

Its not like everyone was saying Ottke would kill Calaghe, Ottke's style was a nitemare for most. It didn't dominate but it was hard to dominate against his style as he was defense first in a extreme way.

Regardless, Calzaghe matched tougher fighters than Ottke did anyways so even if he did duck Ottke it really wouldn't mean much.

Talking about Ottke style, it may have been a nightmare for most but it wouldn't have been for Cal,

IMO joes high punch output with Ottke low KO probability would have resulted in an easy UD for Joe
