The best commentators are always the active or retired boxers. They are always better than the creer hack commentators who got their jobs due to their family or political connections.
Watch when Roy Jones is on and always has to correct the other hack commentators when they spout nonsense or display their boxing ignorance.
Merchant will say something dumb like, "That was a great right hand by so'and'so, but whatshisname took it well"
Than Jones will correct him by saying, "The reason he took it well Larry is because he missed with that wild punch".

Worst botched gender-reassignment surgery ever. :verysad

Poor guy is perennially confused. "I'm Jewish! Nah, I'm Christian! I'm Brooklyn born, baby, east coast, sup! Nah, I'm straight Vegas, player, westward bound! I'm male! Nah, I want to challenge Braekhus! I'm gonna let this Mabuza guy beat me up! Nah, uppercut! Zip zap zoom! Nah, bang bop bap!"

    I blame that ponytailed guy.

(Steven Segal, that is - he once concussed Zabdiel with a high kick over a dice game...)

I like them both, but I agree that they're a disastrous combination. When they were trying to explain to you what had happened in the Donaire-Vetyeka fight it was just absurd. Sounded like they were looking for the ****ing remote control.

    LOL, did that really happen?
Segal should be ashamed of himself since his movies always emphasise his fast hands over his kicks.

You don't want to match handspeed with Judah toe to toe. Even Mayweather realized the folly in that after trying it for 4-5 rounds. :yep

Always felt like Merchant thought everybody was tuning in to see him. Never had a problem with Sheridan. Can take him or leave him.

Sheridan is a congenial guy and his genuine like of the sport does shine through, but yeah, sometimes he is a little slow on the uptake or downright cringe-worthy in some of the off-the-cuff stuff he says. (but then so was Big George at times!)

Very few people strike a balance of having deep analytical knowledge of boxing and being good to listen to. The best around probably are Bernstein and Farhood, but I can see why some people (not me) dislike them or feel they come across too 'nerdy'.

I think Roy Jones is overrated as a commentator. I think Paulie Malignaggi is better. I feel he gives a better analysis of what's going on, like when he pointed out that Maidana kept jabbing to the body to set up the hook that knocked Broner down.
