canelo thrown just as many punches in the mayweather fight than any of his other fight...people talk like he was doing nothing pfff
I think it was obvious after the Mayweather fight that Alvarez couldn't even make 154 anymore which is why he moved up. Moving him down to 152 was a smart tactical plan by Mayweather and his team.
Could be based on how he trains, even in his training videos he works in explosive bursts before resetting. And that is how he fights throws everything into his combos. His problem against Mayweather was that he needs to plant his feet before throwing a combo.
What many are overlooking is each person is different genetically, with certain predispositions. If you recall, when Julio Caesar Chavez was in the spotlight, toward the end of his career, they talked about how unusually thick his skull was, literally the thickness of the bone. When Secretariat died the autopsy showed him to have a heart twice the size of a normal thoroughbred. These are things that cannot be seen or readily quantified. It is the X factor, that makes a champion. Heart, will, determination, are all important factors but you have to have the underlying engine and physical attributes to be a great champion.
No, I'm not saying that. I have no idea. My point is he may be "gassing" for other reasons, maybe even reasons he can't control. Maybe it is the way he works out. Maybe it is physiological, is all I am saying. Don't know how many of you follow tennis but one of the top players right now is Novak Djokovic. He has always been extremely talented, but early in his career he was gassed all the time. He had to bow out of tournaments. His body just couldn't handle it. Tests were done and it was determined he was gluten sensitive. Changed his diet and went on to win 6 majors. My point is, we don't always know why top athletes "gas." Could be nerves, could be diet, could be training. Ironically, he was throwing up and lost to Nadal in the finals of the French Open recently. We may find out later that Canelo has 30% blockage of his arteries, thus limiting the amount of oxygen to his body. You never know. But if I were to guess, I would agree with some of the other posters, that he is carrying too much muscle mass for his weight class. Sacrificing stamina for power.
Yeah you make some good points. There are just so many variables so who knows. Never followed tennis so that story about Djokovic is pretty surprising.
I don't think he has a stamina problem but if you load up on shots like Canelo does it's kinda hard to pace yourself for 12 rounds.
You're the second person to bring this up. Its an interesting point and actually makes a lot of sense.
It would be interesting to hear from some guys that are boxing right now, who also lift weights. I have always heard that great boxers never lift weights. In other words, they don't bulk up because, even though they may be more powerful, their stamina is shot. It also pushes them into an unnatural weight class. Guys who appear very natural within their weight classes, meaning power but not bulk, are Provodnikov, GGG and Kovalev. There are many others but those are a few that come to mind. Stevenson and Cotto seem too bulked up and Ward appears too thin.
Do you guys even watch the way he fights? He throws his combos at near 100%, he doesn't pace himself at all. He is too stubborn, he just wants to throw bombs for 12 rounds and nobody can do that. His gameplan lately is he comes out strong the first 1 minute or 1 minute 30 seconds of the round, then coasts, then the last 30 seconds he throws a flurry of punches to make sure he has the round.
It's true about the IV, absolutely. He was laying down behind the stage and then sitting while on stage until he had to undress and walk to the scale. He then walked back behind stage and was CARRIED to the IV. after that he could make it to the hotel. Also (just like DLH vs Pacquiao) after a weight cut like that the stomach literally shrinks. Thats why he could only get up to 165..not his usual 170-172. That loss is no loss at all.
