Yes his resume is good enough and yes he would beat Cotto.

Actually he has a point. Does it really matter to PR if Cotto is coming off a loss? Cotto is going to sell doesn't matter who he fights. Ofcourse, like any PPV star you need another star to do big numbers. But Cotto definitely sells where ever there are Puerto Ricans. Is it worth it fight GGG when you have Canelo as an option wether he wins or loses his fight with Lara? Nope!

There isn't a much deserving fighter on middleweight other than Golovkin,,... If you think he don't deserve it then nobody else does, unless you suggest Cotto to move to 168 where the bigger names are or move down to 154 where the money fights are....

Golovkins resume is solid but missing a win over a Martinez, a Sturm.

People have to remember he is a 160lb fighter who has been avoided by Martinez, Sturm, Martin Murray turned him down, Quillin doesn't want any part of him despite what he says.

He's had a tough time getting fighters in the ring with him but when he does he brushes them aside with little trouble.

Orishaman one question to you; if Cotto stays at 160 what 160 fighter deserves the shot over Golovkin?

If GGG gets past Geale he'll have the best resume at 160 and will it'd also the be the richest MW fight available to Cotto.

The question is - will Cotto defend his 159lb crown against legitimate MWs or choose to earn what is likely more money by fighting JMWs who are moving up?

IMO the Hopkins MW lineage - 13 years old, will lose much of it's credibility if it's not defended against proven MWs, but it seems that Cottos fame, WW and JMW success (and perplexingly also his losses) seem to make this a non-issue for some fans. Oh well, each to their own I guess - as long as he was a great WW I guess he doesn't need to fight MWs to remain the MW champ.

I'd just like to point out that GGG's ranked no.1 contender behind Cotto in both the Ring rankings and the Transnational Boxing rankings.

He doesn't need to do anything to earn a shot at Martinez. He was already an established name due to his resume and general popularity. That's enough, in this era, to earn title shots at whatever weight you decide to jump to.

Martinez fought Paul Williams at Middleweight in a FOTY quality fight which was 50/50 and lost. Pavlik was originally supposed to fight Williams but pulled out due to injury and Martinez was quick to replace him. If Paul Williams was the #1 candidate, Martinez was clearly #2 for the 50/50 fight they had. Simple and easy if you were following the sport back then.

You're 100% right and I do agree with you, unfairness is rather typical nowadays when it comes to everything, not only sports. It's all about how hyped you are and how good management/promotion is to make fans recognize and discuss you. Especially with the help of the internet(twitter, facebook, instagram...etc) it's rather easy to self promote if the public recognize you. There are far too many ways to promote yourself if your management is good enough to exploit these options. However, in Cotto's case he earned his spot and deserves the paydays he's going after. The man has been in there with everyone even fighters he had zero chance against, he still took those fights without any complaints even when they offered him zero advantages. With that said, he's free to ignore GGG and fight someone that would earn him good money, it's his LIFE and FUTURE on the line here and he's clearly at the end of his career. A fight against GGG will earn him absolutely nothing compared to other fights. He has been there and done that already with fighters like GGG. GGG, and I'm a fan of his, needs to score at least one major win before aiming for guys that could bring him serious paydays.

Exactly. And Cotto earned this position by fighting every big name available. He didn't just get it based off hype and photoshoots.

Golovkin is highly ranked, holds a world title and has as good a MW resume as most. Of course he deserves his shot, anybody saying otherwise has an agenda. If you don't want to see the best fighters in the division fight each other to find out who really is the best then you are not a real boxing fan.

I'm a "real" boxing fan and admit I'd rather see Cotto fight the winner of Alvarez/Lara than GGG. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of GGG but if he's picking on Cotto as his very first major fight of his entire career then he has a serious problem.

I would also rather see Cotto vs Canelo but at 154.

GGG's only problem is getting the top guys at 160 in the ring with him. GGG wants to prove he is the best in the division and that means beating the other top MW's, especially the lineal champion.

GGG is WBA champion, ranked #1 by the Ring and is considered by most people to be the best MW in the world. He deserves his chance to fight for the lineal championship and nobody can blame him for wanting and trying to get that.

Alvarez can't make 154 anymore, which is why he's moving up.

As far as GGG is concerned, he's just in a bad position. He clearly lacks major victories which is why he will be ignored by Cotto. Cotto, who is clearly at the end of his career, wants to score some major paydays before calling it a day for good. He earned this position by fighting everyone available back when it mattered. He had the right promoter and manager which brought him to the position he is in today and he paid for it(literally). A fight with GGG won't even be on PPV.

    Again I ask the question;

Who at 160lb deserves to fight for the lineal title more than Golovkin?

This is for the people claiming the God of War doesn't deserve the fight due to lack of resume.
