It's not embarrassing for boxing. Looks at how many Muay Thai champions from Thailand turned pro and becoming boxing champions. One even becoming an ATG.

At least he was a former Pro Kickboxing World champ. He has been Boxing since the age of 23, 7 years of strictly boxing but being a pro kick boxer would have helped early on.

Martinez had an amateur background to be fair but before the age of 20 he had never set foot in any combat sport gyms.

Some people pick up the sport at later ages.

If you can box, you can box. There are people with lots of Am. fights who aren't good professionally and then people like Nate Campbell.

Different rules for HW. Less agility, mobility, speed, reflexes skill required as a whole. Generally you can start later at HW and have higher chance of success rate than starting at lower weights. At lighter weights punches come in so fast, you need to be a lot more mobile, better reflexes to dodge them, and this can only be acquired after years and years of experience. At HW the opponents are slower, thus you wont need as fast reflexes. There is also that 1 punch KO power that can bail out a fight any time. Also an advantage you are generally not competing with Mexicans who has been living breathing boxing since they were 5 years old.

Russia is so corrupt, it is impossible to forecast a boxer's true ability based on their past Russian recorded performance.
These are the most cheating people on the planet.
The US FBI most wanted list always has criminal Russians in the top five spots, year after year.

How is that hate? He does hit like a girl, relative to other elite boxers in his weight class. He will probably call back into obscurity, seeing as he does't have a crowd pleasing style and very beatable. His eye was gonna be made fun of, the same way Margo's eye was made fun of.

Where was the negative talks before last night? Nowhere

It came as a result of him beating Provodnikov.

If he had beaten another man, we'd be hearing much different things. Where were the "Herrera hits like a girl" comments? Oh yeah, nowhere.

Keep justifying the hater comments. You seem butthurt over this win. :deal

    Cream rises to the top.

It also show the value of application, hard work and intelligence. Others take notice.

    Algeri earned it. Big up.

You seem to be focused on the wrong thing. He FIGHTS, which is why he won.

My heart bleeds for them....oh wait, no it doesn't. Just because you have lots of amateur experience doesn't mean a) you deserve to win a world title ahead of someone who doesn't and b) you'll be a good enough pro to win a world title. You're either good enough or you're not, regardless of amateur experience.

Algieri was good enough last night. Simple as that.
