Yeah Wlad's recognition by a hardcore of this type on this forum makes me wonder. Sometimes you get a bit of groupthink on ESB Classic, but I never ignore it because there are a lot of savvy dudes on here. In short - if the rule of thumb that says a fighter's stock rises upon his retirement rather than drops, where is Wlad going to end up?

    Will it be top five?

This is one of mine I copied and pasted from an old thread many years ago.
My first thought was Wlad should go up a few now and it looks like I may have underrated Lewis here and maybe overrated Holyfield.. :huh

You are forgetting Nat Fleischer's ranking of JJ at #1. Bert had JD @ #1 in '91. The below link shows 17 historians rank JJ & JD in their top ten.

    http://coxscorner.tripod.com/heavylists.htm

EH doesn't deserve a spot over either of those guys IMO. #1 Cruiserweight of All-Time. Outside Top Ten HW of All-Time. Too inconsistent.

    Mcgrain,

Wlad's career so far has answered all the questions that pertains to greatness.

    1. Had Wlad cleaned out his era? Yes. He has the second longest title reign in heavyweight history, with 15 title defenses, and 2 different unifications of the belts.

    2. Did Wlad duck anyone? No. He beat all of the best contenders of his generation(Povetkin, Haye, Chagaev, Ibragimov) and he is scheduled to take on the # 1 rated Kubrat Pulev for his next fight.

    3. Has Wlad defeated a variety of styles? Yes. He has defeated big punchers (Peter, Brewster, Haye, Mccline, Wach), and skilled technicians (Byrd 2x, Chambers, Ibragimov, Povetkin, Thompson 2x) ranging in all sizes.

    4. Has Wlad showed he can overcome adversity? Yes. After suffering his 3rd knockout loss in 2004, Wlad changed trainers, ignored the advice from his brother to quit boxing...re-invented his style to become one of the most dominant, consistent, long reigning champions of all time..going the next 10 years without a loss, and unifying all the belts.

Prince Naseem can boast the same stats as Wlad. Legacies built only on dominating average competition fade away over time.
For Wlads name to have any remembrance he needs to make an impact. Wlads effect on the sport got him put on Eurosport.
No top 10 'atg' fights on Eurosport in their prime.

    Live with it.

Also, contact me when Wlad becomes eligible for induction to the Hall!

Because Herbie Hide, and Orlin Norris compare to Archie Moore in boxing skill

I think Vitali fought one blown up cruiser...Chris Byrd....didn't he lose that fight? That's right, Byrd made Vitali swing and miss thus hurting his shoulder.

Shared era. Who else had a partner help them stay on top?
Sanders and Puritty rematch. Chisora. Why did he not give Williamson the rematch? Rematched Evert martin but not Williamson? TOS was getting the better of Wlad. Why didn't he go back and scrub that question mark.
He can only get a handle on various styles through fouling. He hasn't the skills to draw upon to neutralize guys coming in. All he can do is jump their backs. Failure to adapt. He can't deal with styles.
Facing adversity against a woeful contender like Peter proves whats wrong with him, not whats right with him.

    Naseem avoided some fights.

Wlad has cleaned out the division.

I remember that you used to use Joe Calzaghe as the model of why Wlad wouldn’t make the Hall.

    Care to elaborate on that?

Peter had not been knocked down and had incredible power and strength. He would probably be a tough fight out for anyone before he met Wlad.
