Most (15) of the all-time great HWs have won it (excluding the HW Champs before 1928). It was a travesty LL didn't win it. Will WK suffer the same fate? I think he has a chance, but he needs to face consecutive top tier contenders (possibly even 3 in one year).

Does this impact the legacy of the fighters who never won it? Would LL (or others) be higher in your list?

Marciano getting it 3x during the early to mid 50's seems a bit ridiculous… as does Ingo getting it twice. And the fact that heavies have received it 34 times in about 70 years seems more ridiculous since it is historically one of the weakest divisions.

Obviously more a popularity contest than anything.

He'll have an outside chance in 2015 assuming he gets past Pulev in Sept. A unification win over Stiverne or Wilder in May and a win over Fury if he gets past Chisora will be pretty impressive. He may even squeeze in another alphabet defense in the yr. if he did that and nothing unexpected happens like Mayweathter getting ko'd in one round by someone etc he could win it. But I am sure his focus is on Pulev. I doubt he worries about such things.

The Ring mag, is produced in the USA, and Klitchko is NOT an American boxer, so no he will NEVER win it, simple as that..:-(

I will be happy if and wheh someone drops WK on his ass, watching him fight with all of the hugging, holding, grabbing, etc is just really annoying...

Maybe if he wins the WBC belt. Having the WBC, IBF, WBO, and WBA at the same time is very rare.

Pulev is bloody awful, slow and predictable .Stiverne looks promising to me.Fury is game but not hard to tag and not that durable. Chisora lacks power.Wilder is just a long puncher ,he hasn't a clue inside, let's wait and see if he can take a shot.

It's who you are beating not how many, his challengers have been abysmal no matter which ABC alphabet crew ranks them.

Wlad has and will never have a chance of winning ring magazine fighter of th year for two reasons

    1. His not American
    2. His fights don't take place in america

Benvenuti and hatton are the only two fighters in about 90 years of this award that didn't meet this criteria and still won it

These are the same people who had broner p4p top ten , they have very little credibility left

I like Pulev, he is terribly predictable though and his style is all wrong for Wlad, I think he loses badly. He does have a mean streak which I like and I think he has pretty fast hands, nothing spectacular but I think he is the rightful number one challenger based on resume. He leaves himself wide open in a clinch though and if Wlad wants to play rough he is going to absorb a lot of right hands in there. I like Stiverne as well, good power and fast right hand. Durable too. He defeated both Price and Helenius as an amateur, he just needs to stay in shape he looked like he was beginning to gas against Arreola before that beautiful counter right connected. Fury is "game"perfect word to describe him. I attended his fight with Cunningham and his gameness impressed me even though his skill did not. Chisora would get murdered by Wlad. That's why I am pulling for Fury in their rematch. Wilder I don't trust too protected, and I hate guys that have connections to the title like he does. Jennings, Fury, Pulev, Chisora, Helenius and few others have all done more to earn a mandatory than he has.

I think that when somebody finaly beats Wlad, it might well be a fight of the year.

What again? I have never commented on Ring's FOY before.

What is truly redundant and tedious is your endless, completely predictable and unimaginative bashing of one of the most dominant heavyweight champions in the sport's history.
