Where does he rank head to head ability?

Very highly. Even higher using same day weigh-ins. It is the difference between a guy like Evander and Marciano to me.

He holds advantages in toughness and grit over most heavies, which was proved to be enough throughout his career.

I wouldn't favor anyone over him over 15.

    I would.
    Dempsey.
Langford would give him a tough night too imo.
    Tunney?

The same Dempsey who invites right hands for Sunday dinner? I'm just not that impressed with Dempsey's go for broke tactics, either in execution or style. I think Rocky could weather it and tear him down. And if Dempsey went for the Gibbons style fight, he would be mistreated at close and mid range. He wouldn't be pushing around Rocky like he did Tommy.

Langford gives him a tough go potentially. I thought about that but still would favor Marciano. Rocky was just slippery enough. And despite Langford's reach, his height would have the Rock sinking into his power shots. I just don't see him surviving that treatment.

Tunney just isn't proven enough above light heavy for me to credit him that much.

And my caveat as always in these matters… who the **** knows?

The 1986 Holyfield version who fought Qwai at 190 would beat the rock, most likely on points he had all the tools, speed, stamina, height, reach, mental strength, youth, athletic ability....

Marciano would beat them all with some serious action fights from Dempsey and Langford. Marciano's pace, strength, power and stamina and ability to take a shot prevails. Evander rugged but Marciano gets to him as well in a battle of attrition and brutal body shots. He breaks down Tunney but the war was first fight with Charles and that Charles may beat Langford and Dempsey and may not. Charles would still be a monster at 190 but Marciano the King

Marciano was knocked down by a 42 years old light heavyweight and a 37 years old heavy. Neither hit as hard as Dempsey.

I think Langford takes him out .. A bigger hitter with either hand, better defensively, faster, sharper ... Dempsey is a toss up .. Fitz may wreck him .. a 49 Charles and a 27 Tunney would be very tough .. that being said, he's in there w all of them ...

To me...Marciano...in his prime...was the toughest SOB to ever set foot in the ring. Marciano was floored for the 1st time in his career against JJW in their first fight in 1952..cut...blinded for 4 rounds...couldn't see properly...was getting the **** punched out
of him...behind on all score cards...and then throws the best right hand ever...and wins the title. Has a great 15 rd brawl in the first fight with Ezzard Charles...gets his nose split...
..DOWN TO THE BONE...in the rematch...begs the ref not to stop the fight...storms out...KO's Charles...and keeps the title. I've been watching boxing since 1964...and I've seen guys quit on their stools for much less...with his chin...power...conditioning...stamina...etc.
I'd put The Rock in the ring against anyone...

I'd favor both of them over Firpo.

Moore was 38 years old when he fought Marciano not 42. If you're going to criticize at least get your facts straight. For the record 1952 Walcott and 1955 Moore would be more skilled than anyone Dempsey beat

Who would beat him south of 190? Holyfield, Clay, Dempsey, Langford, Roy Jones, Billy Conn, young Archie Moore, young Ezzard Charles, Michael Spinks, Bob Foster, Gene Tunney, Bernard Hopkins, and possibly James Toney, Andre Ward, Tommy Loughran, or Chris Byrd.
