At his best, Tim could take a tremendous shot, so Mike ain't kayoing anybody. But I could see him winning a fight that could go either way.

One of the stories behind the Spoon/King case was, after one of Spoons fights, King charged Spoon a large sum of money for sparring partners.

It was meant to be $700. But KIng 'accidentally' put an extra zero and charged Spoon $7000 for sparring partners.

One of Kings many greatest hits.

Tyson wins, probably by KO, but Witherspoon would have really tried to win and given Tyson more problems than anyone else did prior to 1990.

Sure, Tillis, Green, Smith, and Tucker went the distance but none of them were actually trying to win... not after a few rounds anyway. Witherspoon would have had some moments, maybe even won a few rounds.

Witherspoon beat Smith in their first fight quite easily, a near shut out. Thomas beat Witherspoon in a close fight. Witherspoon gave the early rounds away and had to play catch up, he came up a little short. Witherspoon's win over Tubbs was close. Witherspoon didn't always train hard... a lot of the 80's HWs had this problem. Cocaine's a hell of a drug!

I agree. I just don't buy the whole "Tyson didn't fight Witherspoon so Spoon might beat him" gibberish. It's prevalent on every boxing forum. Spoon was nothing special. He was a good fighter but wasn't fast enough to beat Tyson or even last the distance. Tyson chopped down many a durable fighter in that 80's time frame, some that had never been KO'd or even knocked down for that matter. Spoon would definitely come to fight but he'd end up like all the others.

Regarding his match with Thomas, Spoon looked like he couldn't adjust to Pinkie's jab over the course of the fight. Thomas definitely had control from start to finish. The Tubbs fight was much closer, but just plain boring.

Back to the original question..i asked more why they didnt fight....not so much who would win.. thanks guys anyway...he was probably the only top fighter of the era that Tyson didnt fight.

Bonecrusher beat Spoon in the tournament and then Don King blackballed him.

A bit too simplistic. Remember it was the Dynamic Duo not just Don King that run the tournament until mid 87. And Lewis probably would not of cared if Tyson had lost. Witherspoon, although hard done by, did not help himself either.

What does Butch Lewis have to do with Mike Tyson and Tim Witherspoon never fighting each other?
