How do you think this fight would`ve played out had they met in year 1990 when they were both top contenders for Tyson`s crown and arguably both at their peaks.

That seems very credible. Holyfield's better all round skillset seizes the day.

Evander Holyfield KNOCKS HIS ASS COLD IN 5 ROUNDS:deal...

Morrison knocked him out in 6, and Holyfield was obviously more skilled than Morrison....

What the **** did Ruddock ever do to be so highly rated besides beat up a faded DOKES, in 1990...:huh

It's true Ruddock's resume is very thin. A semi controversial stoppage against Tyson and a competitive loss in the rematch are his only other claims to fame. He was no world beater.

I don't see Holyfield knocking Ruddock out, but I do see them going to war and both men getting hurt. Holyfield's accuracy and workrate getting him the win over 12.

Holyfield overall had a much better career and I rank much much higher then Ruddock but at this time Ruddock was on a role and Holyfield was also, though it wasn`t easy. He had a life and death battle with Michael Dokes not to long before Ruddock destroyed him and also had a very tough fight with Alex Stewart and would go on to have hard fights against an Old Foreman and Holmes along with a very tough war with Bert Cooper. Holyfield was the kinda fighter who`d get the win but it often wasn`t easy and I think he would`ve found himself in one hell of a struggle with Ruddock at this time. I think Holyfield would come out with the win but would take tremendous punishment from Razor and it would`ve been a great great fight.

Wow. Most ill-informed post in quite a while.

Because we all know that the 1990 Ruddock was exactly the same fighter as the 1995 Ruddock...

This isn't a career ranking or an award for career contribution to the sport.

This is about a moment in both fighters' careers, and if they met then. Not about legacy or greatness.

Ruddock was a game fighter with tons of power and decent boxing skills. Holyfield was not fully formed, still liked to be dragged into brawls and wrote checks his body could barely cash. Bowe would later expose these attributes but was hardly the puncher that Ruddock was.

It could go either way, but I will pick Ruddock in 1990 to lure Holy into a firefight and Holy to be on the short end.

Yes. I wonder if Michael Dokes ever gave a prediction on a proposed match?

Yea like there was really a difference, both versions, fought face first, predictable, and pretty much relied on on hand...:nut
Gee it was pretty obvious if you could box, and didn't stand in front of Ruddock you could beat him, not to.mention the guy was kinda dumb, and couldn't fathom a plan b in major fights, when he was behind or losing...

He actually used to have a great jab before he fell in love with the Smash. Still, in 1990, he was a lot to handle and not a shrinking violet. Tyson and Lewis pretty much destroyed him.

BTW, who was the best fighter Ruddock ever beat, faded Dokes??? who was about 8 years past his best??
Who did Rudock beat to be so all that?
WHat was it this guy did to be so highly over-rated???
I guess getting your block knocked off by Lennox Lewis in 2 rounds gets you a 5 star rating in ESB...

This isn't about who is the better fighter, who has the better legacy, or who beat whom after 1990… It's about a moment in 1990 when the two might have met. Razor was already a veteran heavy. Holy was not. Razor was aggressive and still have remnants of his former boxing skill in evidence. Holy still liked to brawl to win.

Again, in 1990 this would have been a close fight. In 1993, not so much.

Know your history or be doomed to have me repeat it to you.
