I have thought about my favorite fighter Pernell Whitaker who was the supreme artist. Well Roberto Durans opposition was limited and he lost to every good fighter he fought. How can he be one of the greatest ever? Isnt he overrated some?

He lost to every good fighter he fought? What the?

Besides amassing one of the best resumes at LW... some of his greatest wins...

His first win vs Leonard can be considered one of the greatest victories in the history of boxing, jumping up 2 weight classes and beating the champion there who just beat Benitez btw. This is a win over a prime SRL, not any other 147. This is SRL.

    - His win vs Iran Barkley, who has 2 wins vs Hearns btw. Everyone thought Barkley would knock Duran the fuk out. Duran knocked him down and beat him on points

    -Buchanan

-Winning the trilogy vs De Jesus, who was an extremely good fighter

    - Davey Moore, who everyone thought was far too big and would knock Duran the fuk out. Nobody thought Duran would win this because this was after Leonard 2 and everyone thought he was washed up. Duran kicked the **** out of him.

    - Fighting Marvelous in 15 rounds even though he was beaten decisively on points, still a good showing at 60.

Duran was the greatest lightweight champion of all time, plus he went up and beat much bigger fighters in the higher weight classes. NO, Duran was not overrated..............

Ppl look at his amount of losses and assume he wasn't as gd as ppl rate him but he has amassed some amazing records

no, if anything here is underrated.for the great majority he only comes on their radar screens as a result of the Leonard fights. only a small percentage of people appreciate what he did as is lightweight. He suffers from having a long, though great career twilight.

Retired undefeated at LW with (I believe) 40-50 fights in the division.

When past his prime and extremely shopworn he moved up making a name for himself as a credible champion in several different divisions.

    Fought in 5 different decades.

His resume is on the face top 5 ATG worthy.

It's Mayweather's legacy to the sport. I was on a facebook boxing fanpage where people were arguing that Floyd was greater than Ray Robinson... Their proof? Floyd is undefeated and I quote "Guys like Jake Lamotta would never have even touched Floyd."

    I hate boxing fans now...

he lost to Marvin and Hearns outclassed him. Benitez out classed him. Leonard out clased him. Moore was not great!!! why is he great? Who cares if Barkley beat Hearns when Duran could not beat Hearns. Hearns made him look like a second rate fighter!!!!

Duran was far from a face first brawler. in fact, he had excellent boxing skills and great defense. just because he was agrressive and came forward doesn't mean he was a mindless seek and destroy type of fighter. he was much more cerebral than you are giving him credit for.
