Duran at 5'7" (37 yo) vs Barkley at 6'1" (29 yo), probably got outweighed by 15 lbs on fight night. In Barkley's previous fight, he knocked out Hearns in 3 rounds.

If you look at those numbers, and compare it to modern fighters, it's pretty insane. Duran was old and small compared to towering Barkley. He took a hook that nearly knocked his head off and came back to not only knock Barkley down, but also win the fight.

It was one of the most stunning victories of Duran's career, as significant as his win over Leonard. If Duran was overrated, then everyone is overrated.

barkley knocked out hearns so what. Duran got destroyed by Hearns!!! outclassed. All time great? no way. Barkley was a limited fighter and lost to everyone. his claim to fame is Durans buddy Hearns and then lost to everyone else. so what. Leonard beat Duran and made him quit. AGain, where is the greatness?

YDKSAB and I mean that in the truest sense.

Duran didn't belong at 147, let alone 160. I'd like to see your favorite fighter fight a monsterous puncher in his prime who 6 inches taller, and had a massive reach advantage.

Who has your favorite fighter fought that is comparable to Hearns? When was the last time he fought someone that good, that powerful and that big?

Pernell would have done better against Tommy Hit Me Hearns than Duran did. Hearns loved to brawl and get into fights when he didnt have a chin and Pernell might have connected with his chin. And he would have outboxed Duran. Duran was not a small guy that is just an excuse.

Duran started fighting as a skinny bantam and ended up fighting super middle.

Duran stepping up and fighting much bigger men who are true greats of the sport is like Hagler stepping up out of middle to fight guys much bigger like Mike Spinks and Hollyfield :D

Hagler never moved up and had the guts to fight Spinks or Holyfield. Hearns moved up and was beaten by Barkley at 175. Duran was not close to the level of Pernell or Floyd.

Pernell was on his way to losing against the tall Hurtado before he landed a punch to the end the fight. He was getting outboxed and got knocked down twice.

Hearns is leagues above Hurtado. He's also bigger, longer and stronger. If Whitaker fought Hearns, he would have loss, probably by KO. It's easy to talk about fantasy matchups, but we all know Hearns would have been a terrible matchup for Whitaker.

    Duran/Whitaker would have been a 50/50 fight.
