Obviously you overlooked when Martinez darted across the ring to try and
catch Cotto off guard with a Left cross!!!

There was nothing wrong with his knees!!!!

You guys are the only ones making excuses as he and his team haven't!!!

A boxing match took place in that ring, and what showed was that Cotto was the best boxer Sergio had ever fought. Sergio is used to being the better boxer in the ring, in a fight where that was clearly not the case, the results should not be all that shocking at least in hindsight.

martinez was totally flat footed. cotto's footwork looked the same as it always does. there's no denying that cotto got a watered down version of martinez in the ring that night. martinez prior to the injury was still flawed skillwise....but he was able to get away with those flaws because he was so fast on his feet. a simple look at one of his old fights will show that immediately.

That is true, but he was also faster against the bigger and slower middleweights. Cotto came in light and was the fastest fighter he has fought since... well hell, ever I think.

No it didnt, you don't know wtf you are talking about, you've never boxed, you don't understand the small things Cotto was doing to totally **** on Martinez in the footwork department.

He kept his lead left foot to the outside of Martinez's lead right foot all fight, allowing him to get a wider angle for his left hook to the body and the head, while taking away Martinez's ability to even throw a lead right hook.

Keeping the foot to the outside also aligned Cotto's right hand, directly with Martinez's face, that is why you will see everytime Martinez goes to throw his rear left straight, Cotto is just able to counter with a simple straight right hand, because he is working on the inside lane, which itself is two fold. 1) It gets there faster and 2) Cotto's right shoulder protects his chin from Martinez's own fist.

Also.. Martinez would try to circle Cotto, but Cotto didnt chance, he just rotated and stalked. In the first round Martinez's knee was for sure FINE, because he moved all around the ring trying to get away from Cotto and find a hole he can hit, but Cotto was always in position.

For the record, MRI shows Martinez's Knee was fine before and after the fight.

Martinez fought like a man that never boxed a day in his life that night. Any ranked Middleweight would have took him out in NY.

i stopped reading at that point.

i've been involved in boxing probably longer than you've been alive. if you can't see a difference in his footwork...that's on you. cotto has always been good at cutting the ring off. i never said otherwise.

pay attention to how he bounces in and out on his toes in this video...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiJI8hZPWZo

and compare it to how flat footed he was against cotto...

Some of these threads are just out of control. My .02, Sergio could have won that fight, he still had the goods to beat Cotto, that being said, Cotto was severely underestimated in this fight. Martinez was beaten to the punch and hit harder than he ever thought Cotto could hit him, as he said himself, he never recovered. At that point, having been down three times in one round, in a position he'd never been in before, he simply had no answer for the onslaught that Cotto continued to bring. Dizzy in the head and confused from the predicament he was in, constant blows to the head and torso will weaken your legs fast, unless it's a knockout punch, the legs go first. He knew what he had to do, he just couldn't figure out when and how to do it.
