If I have to mention that he was far past his prime and not anywhere near his best weight. If you can,t read or know how to access video and watch the Duran who OWNED the 135 division for years... If you think THAT Duran is overrated, seek immediate medical attention,or better yet... Learn your boxing...As much as I like Sweet Pea the fighter,Duran would have hurt him and stopped him in 13 rds... Whitaker,s chin was NOT the best and a 135 version of Duran... Hurts him...You should notice you are in the minority here...

Best thing I've done on this site was to put that jerk on ignore..as someone mentioned the best way to get a true idea of how good he was is simply to go on youtube and watch a couple of his fights. De Jesus III, SRL - Duran I, and the Barkley fight are my personal favourites.

Great post ! DeJesus was a damn good fighter. This guy misses the point with Barkley and Moore. No one is saying they were ATG,s. But, Duran beating them at the stage of them game when he did, impressive ! And Montreal Duran is a problem for anyone !! At 135, I think he,s the best... Power, dominating infighter and a ton of boxing savvy...

:happy Exactly the guy lost to all the great fighters of his era, very good fighter but he gets accolades for what he has done and NOTHING seems to go against the guy... Can you imagine a fighter today starting off very good, winning some good fights, but also a guy that lost to ALL the top fighters and still be considered an ATG???

It is Nostalgia rearing its head, and focusing on his wins, and tossing out all the one he lost like they do not matter, when in my book it does..The criteria seems to change for pre 1990 fighters.

A guy his size fighting the fighters he did at the weights he did is remarkable. He's earned his high reputation.

He lost to other greats, atg's and legends past his prime with the exception of Leonard. Duran is not close to overrated. And no, his opposition wasn't limited either.

at his peak he was one of the best ever, i think people focus too much on his career after the 1st leonard fight where he was clearly faded
