I dont know about the rest of you, but the two fights i saw of Evander vs. Tyson, Evander was scared to death of Mike and anybody that knows boxing knows that's the truth. Every time Mike would come after Evander, Evander would wrap him up in a hug because he was afraid of getting hit by Mike and then sucker punch Mike. Mike even complained to the referree about Evander holding but the referree didnt say one word to Evander about it I dont blame Mike for what he did in the ring against Evander, biteing his ear even though it was unprofesional it was justice to Evander for his sucker punching to Tyson and the ref allowing Evander to do so. I watched both fights over and over and each time I saw the same thing Evander scared to Death of Tyson, Tyson hit Evander one good time and it staggerd Evander and Evander imedititley grab hold of Tyson for dear life to keep from getting knocked out. Everyone has it all wroung Tyson wasnt afraid of Holyfield, Holyfield was afraid of Tyson! Tyson didnt want to make out with Evander in the ring with all of Evander hugging Tyson wanted to kick Evander ***! After the second bite if you can remember Tyson told Evander come on lets fight Tyson was pissed off because all of Evander holding and I really wish they hadent stopped the fight because it would have gotton really good after that. Tyson would mop the floor with Evander blood in a good old fashioned street fight. And Evander holding wouldnt do him a bet of good in it This will not receive the best answer from the person who asked the ? but you didnt see the fights the same way I did. Holyfield was scared to death of Tyson if you dont beleive so and you still have these fights recorded go back and watch them again and again and you will see what I see.

    Scared to death of Tyson......????????:huh

I dread to think of what Evander would have done to Mike if he HAD N'T have been scared !

A prime 1987-88 Tyson would hit a lot more accurately than he did in 1996 and '97. Holyfield's propensity to get sucked into a war would cost him. Tyson probably stops him by the time the sixth round is up. If Evander is somehow still there after that, then HE has a good chance of taking it.

Maybe scared to death is putting it too strongly (well, it is) but for Holyfield this was a fight that he had been wanting for years and years, and I've read that he had some nerve issues going into the fight, having trouble sleeping and such. Not hard to believe really, considering the magnitude of the fight and that Tyson still had that aura about him.
Ironically though, in the second fight it was Tyson who seemed clearly the more nervous of the two.

But in any case, prime Evander is difficult to pinpoint. Is it the 208 lb. version that fought Douglas and Foreman, or the slightly heavier but older version that fought Bowe the second time around?

I've always thought Tyson between 1986-90 would've destroyed Holyfield before the 4th bell. He was just too powerful and fast, and Holyfield hadn't perfected his head-butting/hugging techniques yet. Holy would've been lucky to reach the first bell, in my humble opinion.

So because Holyfield didn't want to stand there and swap punch for punch with Tyson, that means he was scared to death of Tyson. I see. So that means everyone that gets into the ring and tried to neutralize a swarmer is by definition a coward then. Ah.

Really though, what gives you away as General Forum fodder isn't so much your twisted views of things but your sentence and paragraph structure. Go and work on that and then come back. Then we'll call you "redrooster2."

I like both fighters. In 96 both were past prime, Tyson was 4 years younger but prison and inactivity did the damage, and he peaked at very young age. Holy was in many wars and at 34 his workrate and speed clearly declined.

Prime for prime it's quite interesting, both have great skills, very fast, Tyson clearly the better puncher, Holyfield is one of the best counterpunchers in boxing. I'd like to see Tyson'88 vs Holyfield'93 from Bowe 2.

I'm not a big Holyfield fan, but that man was never scared in the ring. He bumped into Bowe, fought onto old age and after getting momentarily stunned by the first punch Tyson threw came back to win in emphatic fashion.

But yeah, he could have been frightened out of his jockstrap, I dunno.

To answer the topic -- Tyson by stoppage. For a short time Tyson was frightening.

Holyfield tended to get reckless when he was in his prime and would try to out macho Tyson in a slugging match if the bout would have happened when it was supposed to...

, Evander scared of Mike, funny you should try doing some stand up, he wasn't afraid of Lennox and Bowe, but afraid of little mentally fragile Mike:nut

Afraid it's the other way around, Mikey knew he was on his way to another humiliating defeat so he chickened out by fouling out, cowards way out:deal

Prime for prime, Evander TKO 10, Tyson was too mentally weak to ever beat Holyfield, funny how a 42-1 dog Douglas KO'S prime Tyson, but Holy loses to him:huh, DON'T THINK SO!!!

Holyfield would beat his ass in the street too, there's nothing about Mike that Holyfield couldn't deal with:-(..

People love to live in denial and believe what they only want to believe, funny how Tyson't fanboy's can't accept the fact that their boy had 2 chances to beat Holy, and both times came away with NOTHING but his dick in his hand, leading to an ashamed apology he gave in front of the whole World 3 days after the bite fight:yep..

Bottom line is History will ALWAYS show that Holyfield owned that ass:deal..

Holyfield always had Tyson's number. He wasn't afraid of Mike and would come right after him. 1992 Holy vs 1988 Tyson--->Holyfield by 11th round TKO

Holyfield would almost always beat Tyson if they fought 100 times. He's the better fighter, and he was strong in places Mike was weak. What you are seeing with Evander tying up Tyson isn't him being afraid, it's good strategy. It's how Tunney beat Dempsey and Young beat Foreman. As far as Evander being afraid goes, I've never seen anyone look less afraid of Tyson. The dude was completely relaxed and looked ecstatic to be entering the ring, knowing with absolute certainty that he was about to be the Champion of the World. I think he was actually singing along to his walk out song. It looked like he wanted to skip.

People say that the late eighties Mike Tyson was the best Mike Tyson and maybe so, but I don't think he dropped off as much as people say. I think what happened was that he stepped up his competition. Of course, he looked unstoppable fighting an old Larry Holmes, and a blown up light heavyweight Michael Spinks. He's still a top 10 all time head to head heavyweight, but he looked unbeatable because he hadn't faced a Holyfield, Lewis, Bowe, on his level. Sonny Liston and George Foreman both looked the same before they ran into Ali, and Dempsey looked ferocious before he ran into Tunney. Guys always get that aura of invincibility about them when they put a lot of victories and knockouts together. Then some slick boxer breaks their streak and humanizes them.
