Clearly there was a size difference because i'm not the only one who noticed it...even your showtime announcer gods that you follow their opinions like a mindless slave said there was a size difference.

 

GRJ didn't impress but did go 12. I thought his chin would eventually get cracked and lose inside the distance. So in that regard he did better than expected. Scores were way too close to justify how Loma controlled the fight. It was a good fight and the right man won, but who ever saw the fight as a draw needs to get off the rocks.

 

Lomachenko looked bigger, but Maidana, Cotto, Mosley and Floyd looked roughly the same size despite Floyd weighing 150 lbs on HBO's scales.

Floyd looked a lot bigger than Marquez even though Marquez has been weighing around 140 + going back to his 130 lbs fights.

Prefer to go by scales rather than how they look in the ring as it is all guess work otherwise.

What do you think of the fact Russell has talked about moving up in weight?

 

It had nothing to do with size for the way Russell performed. He was just finally stepping up and it was too ambitious. He could have stepped up gradually and faced someone that's more on his level but he did the same thing Loma did in facing Salido and ended up with his 1st pro defeat.

I think 116-112 was about right. Loma is an excellent fighter. It is obvious he knows. How to deal with fast hands. The lateral movement, counter punching and bodywork caused GRJ major issues. However, it was obvious to me from the start that Showtime had an agenda. I think GRJ did good work in spots but he was not consistent and actually a bit too aggressive. He is fast but all the missed punches were opportunities for Loma to destroy the body. Loma will be champ for a while if he keeps it up.

 

Like Salido against Loma.

 

russell is a short dude, so moving up probably wouldn't serve him well...i know he wants to move up because that's where the money is...but if he's gonna do that, he also needs to look into getting a diifferent coach and upping the level of his opposition so he learns how to handle different styles.

 

The one thing Russell has going for him is his speed. Tremendous hand speed. Other than that, Lomachenko thoroughly outclassed him in all other areas. My sense was by the end of the fight Russell was about to go. He was barely hanging on. Loma had gone to the body so long and so effectively Russell had nothing left. To his credit, at least he stayed on his feet.

I thought it was a masterful performance by Lomachenko.

i felt showtime had an agenda as well... i actually used to enjoy al bernstein years ago before he came to showtime...but these days, just listening to him and screeching ignoramus malignaggi make my stomach turn.
