there is a massive gulf in class between domestic and european level to world level. Murray found that out against rios, Mitchell against Katsidis, Burns against Beltran and Crawford. Altough i like Crolla as a fighter(never in a dull fight) and as a person (yet to see him come across anything other than a gentleman) he has yet to beat a fighter above domestic and european level. This is the long and short of it, if this fight comes off i see the towel getting thrown in around the 8th or 9th by gallagher
This is a 60/40 fight favouring Crollain the UK. If it goes to points Abril will win 9-10 rounds at least but still not get the decision. If not Abril will get the stoppage, although Crolla will be given the chance to spit his gum shield out and walk to the other corner for a break as Bellew was in his last fight when hurt.
Abril isn't a big puncher. He has also lost to Breidis Prescott who got schooled by Kevin Mitchell Abril is beatable.
Of his losses I've only seen the Prescott and Rios fights, but the thing they have in common is power that forced Abril into his shell too much. Crolla doesn't have Rios or Prescott's power so he's likely to have to find a different way to beat him. Possible, but in my opinion highly unlikely. And losses to Rios, Lundy and Prescott vs. losses to Sykes, Matthews and Al Hamidi? Come on now Macky...
If this fight is made, to totally write Crolla off is daft. I see your point and but i believe Crolla can win. People should be supportive instead of rubbishing English fighters chances. The losses you are talking about were a long time ago, The Crolla of now is 10 times the fighter of the Crolla of 2 years ago.
I must have missed that mate..well as I said in the other thread although they where both paid peanuts for bad beatings I had no real problem with Rees going over for Broner and Purdy to Alexander because of the circumstances.. I do however have a problem with Rose getting sent over to get splattered for when its all said and done about £30k - who knows what he'll have left after that which is the real worry. Although he won so it doesn't matter I also have an issue with Barker having to go to the US to fight an Australian in Geale... Gary Shaw has never had a problem bringing fighters over to the UK but maybe there was a particular reason i'm not aware of?
Abril schooled Rios, I gave Rios 2 rounds. He was robbed against Prescott and Lundy as well, he should be undefeated
Not sure about that - Prescott he got lazy and sat off too much to win on the judges cards in the States. Always the risk boxing off the back foot there. And to Macky on 'rubbishing British fighters' - I'm not rubbishing Crolla. I actually quite like him, but I'm just being realistic in the fact he's going into this as a massive underdog and the fighter he's got a shot at has style which matches up badly for him. Crolla is a neat and tidy boxer, but one thing he isn't going to do is outbox Abril. And we all know the losses weren't that recent, but then again the Prescott one you based your argument off was in 2008!
Rose did get a small amount but not sure what Barker got paid? I dont know if there is an issue exactly with bringing fighters over other than money but the fact that aside from Eddie in the last 3 years Dennis Hobson i think is the only one to have done so could highlight just how costly it is. I do think he should be trying to get the likes of Abril here, guys like Porter basically have bigger people behind them to call the shots, though according to his Twitter, Eddie tried the numbers on Porter v Brook over here and it didnt come out very well at all. Obviously we would like to see more title fights over here but seems it wont happen for a while.
Yeah OK fair enough, not arguing with you anyway, just a friendly debate ha. I hope he gets his shot anyway and would love to see him win it. Couldn't wish to meet a sounder guy, down to earth and a model professional.
Geale was making a voluntary defence you tit. Barker was lucky to get the shot. Hearns fighters have been consistently spoiled with robberies in theit favour and title shots they didn't deserve.
Just because it was a voluntary doesn't mean Hearn couldn't make a cash offer to Geales people to bring it here - infact that might make it even easier then the mandatory situation.
