Porter doesn't want to fight Thurman, doesn't want to defend against Brook.
Just wants to sit around waiting on a Floyd fight that probably won't happen(remember the Floyd v Alexander rumors?).
Maybe he can vacate the IBF and rematch Malignaggi.

 

If somehow Porter gets the Mayweather fight, then this is forgiven and would not be a "duck" at all, similar to Bradley not fighting Khan so that he could fight a much better fighter for more money in Pacquiao.

If Brook pulls out of the fight... then oh boy. He better be fighting Mayweather or Pacquiao next or else things don't look good for him.

 

If he can get the Mayweather fight, then that's a fight he has to take.
Waiting on Floyd to decide could leave him with no fights though.
Remember when Devon Alexander was rumored to be getting the Mayweather fight, when he was supposed to fight Brook?
Remember the Maidana-Khan "let the fans vote" bull****?

 

He fought the better available opponent in that poll between Maidana and Khan.

So while it sucks for Khan, it is good for boxing fans and his legacy.

 

Hearn said that all parties have signed the contract so they just need to set the date.

Porter-Brook won't be the main event.
So if they move this fight to September, the chance is high that it will be on Mayweather's undercard

Porter is going to fight Brook the biggest appeal about a potential Mayweather-Porter bout to me is the WBC/WBA/IBF Unification which would really make the winner the True Undisputed WW Champ. I know Pacquiao has the WBO Title, but the WBO Belt is probably the least regarded Title out there. That's Porters selling point he needs the Brook win to get Mayweather, Young, Unbeaten, Champ in a unfiying fight.

With the pres of the WBC/WBA/IBF/(WBO*) meeting up recently to discuss things like unifiying titles in order to make the best fights we should be getting more real Undisputed Champs in the future.

Fighters know to get to Mayweather you have to take the Alvarez route and fight Trout while everyone else said don't take the fight, or the Guerrero route by moving up and beating the #1/2 contenders to become mandatory for the belt. Not the Khan route and duck everyone hoping to land a fight.
