First I want to just say that I'm very happy that Lomachenko won a title in his 3rd fight by putting a real boxing lesson to a more talented fighter in Russell Jr., especially after getting cheated out of making history in his last fight. A lot of people are clamoring about him facing top opponents such as Donaire, Garcia, Rigo, etc. right away while he still has single digit pro fights.

All I gotta say is let Lomachenko defend his title with soft opposition first. He's still young and fresh and he has a lot of time to adjust to the pro game. I think there's still a lot more room for improvement that can be made for his style. He's got all the skills but just needs more tweeking. There's no reason to be throwing him in the wolves right away just because of his amateur background.

I just hope he doesn't end up being treated like a Fernando Vargas.

I was impress with Loma. But on second look at that fight. Russell had no sting to his shots most were the shoe shine variety.I think Loma is world class though.

how could russell jr be more talented. there is more than just speed, and loma showed it all:
timing, movement, bodywork, distance, power > speed. more talented lol for crying out loud.

loma is definitely a better schooled fighter. but he doesn't have great natural talent...that's what the OP was saying. russell is more talented but lacks proper coaching, technique, experience etc.

but i think, if a guy is the champ he should fight the best...he skipped the "up and coming prospect" stage because of his age...he's almost past his prime age-wise for a featherweight. at this point loma needs to fight guys like garcia, donaire, gonzalez, mares, veteyka, rigo, etc. why? because he's the champ and the champ is supposed to take on the best challengers, or there's no reason for him to be champ.

Screw that. He's 26 and has a world title. The best fight the best. He needs to make some money, a name for himself, and build up his credentials while he's still in his prime. People used to retire when they hit 30 in this sport. These days fighters loaf around until they are thirty take one or two money fights against names and then call it quits. If Loma needs more experience he can fight five cab drivers a year in between more serious fights like Duran and Julio Cesar Chavez. We don't need him to have cobwebs growing on him like Rigondeaux.

Spot on I who's all the top fighter faught at least four times a year or at least had one or two big fights then maybe 3 or 4 more small ones like in the old days

Also Loma is probebly the fighter in this sport who is least concerned about money, you can tell just by the way he acts and his mentality that he values his acheivments and future legacy a lot more than money.

    Bull****.

The kid has fast hands, fast feet feet, superb reflexes, and an excellent understanding of angles and space.

Only a butthurt Russell fan would suggest the kid does not possess elite level talent and athleticism.

I think you misunderstood him. Skill isn't a talent, neither is any physical attribute Vasyl is better at only handspeed since that's the one area Gary had a slight edge in (largely because they're shoe shine pitty pat flurries)

    Yeah, this.

And yeah, Loma is already a celebrity back in Ukraine, he's had fame ever since he was a young amateur..none of this is new to him. The elite of the elite like Rigondeaux, Lomachenko don't care about these things other than glory - that's why they are who they are today, and that's why they stayed in a career that doesn't really pay them anyhting for so long and take pride from that.

Not sure I follow you, bro.

Skill is most certainly a talent. For example, some fighters are naturally more accurate than others.

That is what we call God given talent

Serious question: What conceivable standard could someone possibly have deduced that Russell is more talented than Lomachenko? I honestly have no idea how that would make sense at all.
