Why come did GGG struggle with a shot, former 147 Kassim Ouma?

He still only dropped like one round, and despite not looking great and getting caught with some pittypat quick shots gave Ouma the beating of his life and basically sent him into retirement.

 

i've watched it a few times but didn't score it. many rounds were close. i think Ouma won more than one, to be fair. you can tell triple G isn't himself. he's always calculating and methodical with picking his shots but in this fight he was just winging them and didn't have his usual power. i think Ouma is in jail right now.

 

GGG didn't looked great in that fight he wasn't active enough at that time.
But he was the first who was able to stop Kassim Ouma in 12 years.

Ouma took a bad beating and was hospitalized after the fight

Ouma was in hospital that night and then became a outpatient for the next 12 months after that fight.he hasn't been the same since,he took a beating.GGG sent a message to oumas people that's what happens when you pull that shite with him at the airport.GGG team new about the scull duggery oumas team was pulling the last week of the fight and ouma paid the price..ouma is now phucked for life..!

It was his old team. He had bad camp and got stranded in airport for almost 2 days. Team Saurland at its best.

 

Let's review how many top guys a motivated Ouma gave hell in the few years preceding his challenge of Golovkin:

• Jermain Taylor (made to look horrible, smack in his prime, coming off the best year of his career with the 2-0-1 run over Hopkins and Wright)

• Gabriel Rosado (held to a split decision)

• Vanes Martirosyan (knocked the Nightmare down, and should have probably gotten a draw at worst; many on here thought Ouma had done enough and nobody agreed with those wide cards...)

Hell, even a sloppy, barely untrained, high-as-a-kite, uncoordinated version of Ouma nearly beat future titlist (albeit weak paper titlist) K9 Bundrage.

In the same year he gave unbeaten lineal middleweight champion Taylor absolute fits he beat Marco Antonio Rubio and took Sechew Powell's zero.

...and this was all past his prime, in which he was a rather unlikely tale-of-triumph world champ!


That he even made it within a minute of going the distance with Golovkin in his twilight in 2011 is just a paean to Ouma's toughness, heart and grit. That he was up on most fans' cards as of the stoppage (87-84 on mine, 86-85 on some others) speaks to his incredible conditioning as he racked up most of those points on sheer work rate.


It was a good learning experience for Golovkin, and stopping Ouma - even a shot Ouma at the end of his rope - is a solid accomplishment, and having done so while behind on points is no great shame. Bear in mind, while already holding the WBA title, Golovkin was a relative baby at 20-0 and Ouma was his first real step up to anywhere near world class ever. Golovkin passed his test, maybe not with straight As, but he passed...and here we are three years later with him improving steadily and so far yet to ever flunk a test, having fought at least 4-5 guys better than a shot Ouma.

He dropped several, but dug his way back in after falling into an early hole and broke Ouma down.

If you are looking for reasons to praise Golovkin on that night, look to his perseverance and commitment to game plan in being able to dig himself out and eventually beat Ouma to a pulp in the 9th and 10th. Don't fabricate that he ought to have been ahead, certainly not by all but a round - which absolutely nobody thought on the night...

Ouma was a few points up on most cards. I don't know what the official judges had.

 

I did not watch the fight until long after it happened (about a year, prior to Proksa fight) and knowing the condition Ouma ended up in. I might have been predjudiced by that, and counting Golovkin's harder shots much higher than people watching the fight live.

The only round I thought clearly went to Ouma was the 4th. Many others were classic quantity vs quality dilemma, which I admit to possibly being prejudiced via hindsight.

 

Kassim actually made a comeback attempt last year. It was, uh, not pretty. :verysad

Yeah, of course nobody then knew that Ouma was about to be taken out but the feeling was "Ouma can't hurt Golovkin because he lacks the power, while Golovkin can't hurt Ouma because of the guy's insane chin" - so it did become a matter of basically just counting all the clean punches and omitting 'damage' from the equation since it seemed for the first eight rounds like neither could damage the other, if for opposite reasons..

It was definitely a case where you had one guy landing a bunch more and the other landing much harder. (which, in the end, did end up mattering...to everybody's surprise) :good
