don't pretend Wlad shouldn't retire. hes slowing and no longer fit for 12 rounds, let alone the 15 rounders lennox used to do, and he no longer offers any excuses for the decrepid level of opposition. Vitali was pretty much retired at 38, everything he did after that age was a joke. 37/38 is a good age to get out at the top. ALL the HW champs of the past got out at or before that age with very few exceptions. SO don't try and argue against the whole of history. Just admit you are wrong, and jog on.
Top 10 HW... With the two extremes of passionate fan bases, he can be both overrated and underrated. H2H he is one of the very best HW's ever, but in my opinion he is vastly overrated in this particular regard. His resume is deep. But elite, top notch "era defining" type of victories he has only few.
15 rounders Lennox Lewis used to do?? Lennox never went 15 rounds in his entire career or was even scheduled for a 15 round fight as a pro.
really? oh memory served me wrong there, thought 15 rounders were still prevalent in the 90s. I blame the whole move from terrestrial tv, that's when I lost track of watching fights live. thanks for the update.
I'd say Lewis is top 5 as a heavyweight, but on an ATG P4P list I'd say mid 50's. Someone like Holyfield who I rate about 7-9 all time as a heavyweight was a far better fighter p4p then Lewis was.
He wasn't that talented if we're being completely honest about things, but, he was tough, and proved his worth. Size matters...as my ex-girlfriend would say.
He ran from the rematch with Vitali and Wlad would have outboxed the overated oaf with ease. Lewis lost to Mercer but got a gift decision. Wlad slaughtered Mercer. And yes, Lewis would have lost to both of the Doctor's Klitschko in the cerebral game of chess.
Vitali dominated two rounds - the opening ones. Lewis came in cold and underestimated Vitali and as a result Vitali started stronger. After the 3rd round it was a very even fight until the 6th which Lewis clearly won and where Vitali clearly wasn't hurting him anymore - since you like to cite Foreman, look back at what George says about Lewis not respecting Vitali's power in the last round of that fight. Just like Vitali "ran like a *****" from a fight Rahman and a fight with Stiverne. Foreman has no right to criticize Lewis's decision to walk away considering how he ducked a rematch with Schulz when everyone thought he'd lost the first fight. Sure, Foreman was an old man at the time but it was only Axel Schulz - and he never got above Euro level. The only thing Wlad has over Lewis is longevity, for everything else his either equally matched or behind. I'm not going to try to argue that Wlad doesn't have some very admirable achievements but I dont think its a sustainable argument give him a top 5 spot then say Lewis just about makes top 10, there's not enough to seperate them to justify that.
