dumb mother fukcer. you idiot is just taking stuff at face value without analyzing stuff.

he handled the weight. he was throwing 60+ punches a round in the first 5 rounds. connected 30pct (how much did russel connect on loma again? was he weight drained too?) of his punches but he just couldnt hit pac flush.

he went for speed to match pac and partly because roach said he cant pull the trigger anymore. roach kind of got under his skin.

so the obvious plan was to be lighter and he accomlished that.

dundee even said he didnt see anything wrong in the camp. that dela hoya looked ok.

what dela hoya cant handle was pac's combo of speed and power. they didnt think pac can hurt him.

and dela hoya didnt not make excuses after the fight. he was asked point blank if it was the weight and he said no.

only after the fanboys, mostly *****s, made excuses for him, thats when i think he started changing his stance.

you either dumb or a ***** to call pac fighting odlh cherrypick. pac went up 3 division in less than a year to fight dlh.

when floyd was on gaycation, berto, jmm and shame are the 3 options. shane over and over was voted as the riskiest fight for pac.

if you call margarito a cherrypick fight, you obviously have only seen him on his ko loss to shame.

cherrypicking in terms of boxing is when you fight the lesser threat than what's available.

If you think JMM @ WW, 0-0 @ WW, was a cherry pick in 2009, it is impossible to argue that JMM @ WW, 0-1 @ WW, in 2011 was not a cherry pick.

Margarito was a complete cherry pick for the vacant JMW WBC title.

Going into the Pac fight, Margarito wouldn't have made a top 500 P4P list if one existed.

    Complete cherry pick.

...I do agree with the rest of your post though.

Yes, I pretty much agree with this. The only thing is Pacquiao did successfully make weight for the fight.

Margarito was a psuedo-cherry pick. Pac is fighting in his 9th division and didn't choose the toughest jr middle out there. People also criticized RJJ's heavyweight belt for not being against Lennox.

Why the f is Hatton a cherry pick?

Oh lemme guess. He had just been knocked out by floyd so he was damaged goods.

guess cotto was a cherry pick for may weather for the same reasons? Nope. You think Mayweather's win over Cotto was better than Pac.s

well...he was ko'd by floyd....then when he came back at home against juan lazcano he was put on ***** street and had to have the home ref help him out.....after that he went feather touch against paulie......so one could argue that he was a bit of a cherrypick....i wont call him one....but a decent case can be made

how would cotto be a cherrypick for floyd for the same reasons that hatton would be for pac? if anything cotto would be a cherrypick for pac for the same reasons that hatton was

cotto= tko'd by margarito...came back beat jennings... barely beat clottey(although ill say clottey is ok).....so pac beats him instead of fighting champ shane mosley...at catch

cotto=3 fight win streak and avenged his loss to margarito before floyd at 154

Cause he had been KOed by Pac.

So? He never avenged his loss to Pacquiao. And Hatton was on a 2 match win streak going into Pac. Is 2 not good enough but 3 is?

    Again, so?

We aren't talking about Cotto's state going into Pac. We are talking about his state going into floyd. He should be considered a cherry pick for the floyd if we consider hatton a cherry pick for pacquiao. You say you don't consider hat ton a cherry pick for pacquiao so we're not really arguing.

so my point is...if were going on hatton is a cherrypick for pac.....i could very well go down the road of cotto was also a cherrypick for pac.....you could strongly make that case as well.....i personally dont like the cherrypick debate.....i dont like to throw that out there....

but if you wanna call floyds fights cherrypicks....cases can be made against some of pacs wins....hatton....even cotto....one can make a case that, phsycially and mentally, cotto was in a better place befor ethe floyd fight than he was against pac.....and hatton too

To speak to the general thread subject matter: I think Floyd is probably ducking Pac, and is probably somewhat scared of him. Following this we might say all of his fights not against Pac are cherry picks in a limited sense. But in the more general sense I think he has actually picked some of his strongest available opponents sans Pacquiao. Any opponent Mayweather chooses gets labeled a cherry pick. I guess a matter of the boy crying wolf.

Ortiz, Guerrero and Maidana were relatively bland, unexciting opponents, but Mayweather gets undue flak for a lot of his other fights:

-Alvarez: undefeated with huge size advantage. A bit overrated and unproven maybe, but no cherry pick. I'm in the minority here, but I even think the catch weight for this fight was reasonable and fair.
-Cotto: Proven elite fighter. Fought him with a size disadvantage.
-Mosley: SS was old, but evidence didn't suggest he was past it to the extend that many say. Had only lost 1 fight in the previous 5 years. Great win for Floyd.
