Time for overrated burns to retire

    Agree, Billy for getting him there, and Frank for giving him more protection that Obama gets in a visit to Iraq.

    Like to see Scottish and British boxers do well in general, but not in Burns case. Not because of him as a person, he seems a nice lad(or did till recent events), but because he was a total hype job, and it annoyed me. Years of Billy N and his groupies saying he was far better than Scott Harrison ever was, he is on cusp of being Scotland's greatest ever fighter e.g, load of pish on both counts. If they were honest and just said boy is good, is doing great with the tools he had I would have got right behind him. Billy N made him a fortune training him/hyping him up so dafties actually believe he was special, and Ricky shafted him. Doesn't say a lot for him as a man, biting the hand that feed him

    Harrison could have been a legend if he stayed away from alcohol and idiots outside the ring.

    Burns may be coming to the end of his career, at least at the top level, but he was never overrated by me. I never felt he could compete at the top at 130lbs, he proved me wrong. There was no chance he was going to be a top fighter at Lightweight, again he made look an idiot.

    Yes the years of battles possibly have finally got to him, but he was a fine fighter who I would go as far as saying; grossly overachieved.

    He was NEVER the top fighter at ANY weight that he was at.

    Ducked Broner and got titles handed to him.

    He was NOT a fine fighter. He is similar to Carl; Awful at nigh-on everything BUT has AMAZING cardio, grit, resolve and determination.

    TBooze I totally agree he overachieved. It was talk he was better than Broner eg that pissed me off, as dodged him and Vasquez as he would have been more cruelly exposed and much earlier too

    Ideal scenario is drop to domestic level, rebuild and get back to another eliminator fight. Time isn't on his side and neither is the desire to listen and adapt.

    He wont get back to world level fights again in my opinion, as previously mentioned he's making school boy errors and found bad habbits in retreating against the ropes. These mistakes shouldn't be made with the record and experience burns has.

    What is their to offer burns domestically when at the moment Mitchell and Crolla and pushing on past domestic level fights?

    Time will tell on his decision, but to retire...now would the right time.

    Agree, plus Crolla, Mitchell have bigger fish to fry at the moment. Think they will both come up short to. Only fight Scottish fans will pay to watch him headline now would be against Scott Harrison (as we know he has balls, and is great value for money). If Burns aint up to that should retire, really he should retire anyway as Harrison would retire him

    He showed himself to be a top fighter in two divisions. He was not given his alphabet titles, he had to win fights that some (me) thought he was not capable of winning.

    The evidence suggests he was a fine fighter, an overachiever and a credit to the sport.

    As for the Broner thing: Think about it... Why avoid your one big money fight? If that fight was ever on the table at reasonable terms Burns would of jumped at the chance; in one fight he would of been made financially for years; win, lose or draw!

    Crolla doesn't have bigger fish to fry. Burn's is over rated but probably still has more than enouh to beat Crolla. Certainly enough to be worthy of the fight.

    Who has Crolla beaten other than Rees?

    Crolla is nothing special but his next fight is meant to be Abril in a World title fight, so that is bigger fish than Burns

    Who did he beat for the titles?

    Ricky never fought the best at all. As soon as he met one of those guys he got outclassed very badly.

    Abril, Gamboa, Vasquez, Broner, JMM - All would have ruined him. Hence why he fought Beltran etc.

    Ridicules, he is scared of lightweights punching him, let alone light welters. He lacks power for his current division let alone a harder hitting one. Morrison will be trying to avoid the call for him to fight Scott Harrison by moving him up, will target Limonds belts no doubt
