if he fights Cotto I hope he has to weigh in at 160, this catchweight stuff is ruining boxing and it is cheating. Why should a smaller guy win a higher title without having a challenge? When it comes to winning a bigger title a catchweight does not make sense. Taking away the challenge? The whole point of a smaller guy winning a bigger title is for the challenge. Can he beat a bigger guy?

I know. He looks like he put on a solid 7-8 pounds of muscle. He looks like he's been working out, not getting fat in between fights. He looked skinny at 148 on fight night against Chino. Maybe someone told him that he needed to get a little bigger so he doesn't get bullied around as much. Even in the lead up to the Maidana fight, he was on camera saying that he was a true welterweight, and that he figured he'd be the naturally bigger man on fight night against Chino. He was wrong, because on fight night he was outweighed by 17 pounds. I think he's realizing he's getting a bit older, and he needs to hold his ground a bit more.

Even his legs don't look like the normal chicken legs they normally look like. They look defined now.

this catchweight thing is making me think Floyd and Pacman should retire. They have ruined boxing with catchweights. It is cheating as much as steroids

I've been on record saying that Floyd fighting Cotto at 154 and 160 is essentially the same thing.

Cotto was 165 on fight night against Floyd at 154
And was 166 on fight night against Maravilla at 159.

Either way whether it's 160 or 154 Floyd is going to be outweighed by a bit.

Size won't make a difference, the only thing that will make a difference is how much Cotto has improved (assuming that he has and the Maravilla win wasn't a fluke or good timing by Roach) and how much Money has faded.

The size variable won't change, Cotto at the peak of his physical prowess is 165-166. The weight they fight at would only dictate how much he has to sweat off. He's coming into the ring the same.

Mayweather is not looking to move up. Moving up means he moves up an fights bigger guys. Catchweights are not moving up. Duran and Hearns both won titles fighting guys natural at 160.. Why can't other guys?

I believe actually his fight weight against Martinez was 161. Martinez was the one that weighed 166.

If he could beat Cotto in Sept and then Garcia at 140 in May. He'd hold the lineal title in 4 consecutive weight divisions at the same time. That would be pretty cool.

it is not the same thing, and if it is then fight him at 160. This is for a world title. Catchweights are cheating. Floyd should retire. He has ruined boxing with these catchweights. Let's make a guy weaker so I can beat him. The challenge of moving up is to fight a bigger stronger guy, if you win, you beat a bigger guy. That is why it is an accomplishment. If you make it less, the accomplishment is less.

you young guys don't get it. Lineal means nothing if you use catchweights. Catchweights are cheating and they are not winning the titles legit. No one cares about lineal anyway. Nowadays the fighters want to bs everyone and win as many titles as they can with catchweights. The great fighters now are frauds.

Pac and Floyd haven't had that many C/W fights since 2007.

    Floyd has had 2.

    Pac has had 4.

I agree that title fights should be at the belt's weight, but I think the weight advantage is so big for some guys, because some of these guys are fighting well at of their weight classes. Some on the higher end, and some on the lower end.

Pac and Floyd are true Jr Welters, fighting at Welterweight. (and Floyd at Jr Middle)

THey both weigh 150 on fight night.

For comparison, Matthysse and Danny weighed 155 on fight night in their fights.

Add to that, that most of the Jr Middleweights are Middleweights, and or Super Middleweights. Guys like Quillen coming into the ring pushing damn near 180.

And you got true Jr Welters, who are going into the ring with true Middleweights and Super Middleweights.

This era of day before weigh ins sort of makes the Catchweight thing understandable.

Most guys are fighting well out of their weight classes, and I think it's okay that sometimes the little guys who are coming up in weight, that are disciplined, and fighting at their true weights, get a little bit of a nod or pass.
