Can Crawford compete against Mayweather?

Yes, absolutely. Floyd is going on 38 and Crawford was 152 on fight night, which is about what Floyd would weigh. People need to stop thinking Floyd is invincible. At some point, he will lose due to age.

 

If he keeps fighting that may happen. However, he still looks pretty sharp. B Hop has 11 years on Floyd and still looks sharp too. So you never know how long Floyd can be effective with his style. Crawford can only beat Floyd by out thinking him. If you think Crawford has a realistic shot of jumping two weight classes and out thinking and out boxing Mayweather, so be it. I just don't see it happening.

 

The question is can he compete with Floyd, not beat him. And I think he can. And Floyd and Bhop fight nothing alike. Floyd relies much more on speed, reflexes, etc. while Bhop fights based on pure fundamentals and skills. One ages much better than the other. Do you think a guy who has Maidana's style would ever give Bhop problems?

 

Both Mayweather and B Hop have very similar styles. They're both thinking fighters. They assess their opponent in the ring and fight accordingly. Mayweather is just more talented. Would a guy who has Maidana's style trouble B Hop? Well, when is the last time that B Hop has faced a guy with a big weight advantage that jumped all over him? The closest was Pascal and he managed to put Hopkins on the canvas twice and they fought to a draw in their first fight.

Anyway, on to Mayweather and Crawford. Again, Crawford would have to out think and out box Mayweather. Do you really think he would have much success doing that? He's not faster, bigger, more talented, more experienced, or more battle tested than Floyd. Crawford would probably lose a lopsided decision to Mayweather.

 

Just because they both assess their opponents doesn't mean they fight alike. They fight nothing alike. Bhop schools slow, come forward fighters in his sleep cause he is the master of controlling distance. No way would Bhop be in such a struggle against a Maidan type style. It's speed he struggles with, which is expected cause he has lost a lot of his reflexes and speed due to age. But slower and predictable guys? He eats for breakfast.
